Default So I hydrolocked my DB8 today.

Coming to work and she started sputtering. Thought maybe water got into my exhaust because in the desert they don't have storm drains for runoff.

cranked her back over and everything spun right but didn't start so I left it alone and called my work to have someone come tow it.

Haven't had a chance to check anything yet because it will be raining until tomorrow.
I just spent good money on getting a stock airbox to replace a weak *** shortram that was there when I bought it.

The good news is I just got done blueprinting my spare gsr motor that I was going to put into my hatch. I was going to the machine shop today to get my P30's installed on my gsr rods. Looks like I will be cleaning my piston/rods and installing the new rings on that.

Now I need either a B20 block for my type r head or just go H2B in my hatch. But my spare block has new everything, bearings, hone, tensioner, water pump, timing belt. I am most likely just gonna swap the gsr head over to that block and have a 0 mile engine in my db8.

This sucks considering I only have 3 more weeks at my job since they closed the doors april 11. Hopefully I will have a better job lined up by then.

Not sorry for the long post this pisses me off just a little.
4 cars and now only 2 running. My hatch has been motorless since February.

Man I feel your pain man my LS almost hydrolocked becuz of rain but I took the CAI off just in time to save the engine. My car was sputtering also when I took it to the machine shop and then I put the short ram on within an hour and she ran as good as it did when I took the CAI off. And now I am planning on boosting my motor and building it also and now I am jobless. So Goodluck man

No I paid cash for it and theft is low here so I cheapassed it and liability only. I suppose I could get full coverage and wait until the next rain.
I have 4 cars. Wifes is full coverage and my 3 are liability only.
I pay 650.00 every 6 months for all of them. My premium would go up more if I go the insurance route. I can just get a block for around 500-600.00 to replace this one.

I have spare blocks and more tools than I can use so I will have this up and running within 1 month. I just will have to use the one I just finished blueprinting as my race motor to put in this.

Maybe its god's way of telling me H2B is in my near future.

It is just dissapointing to have to go through this. Its like rape or something.

I would say theft but I can't imagine how horrible that is. I will pull the plugs in a couple days and try some magic first before I tear apart the block.
I needed to change the rear main seal anyway so it is a good time to drop the pan to replace the pan gasket anyway.
I will do that just to inspect from under for bentness. I didn't see any holes in the block but it does smell like *** crack in my exhaust pipe.

What you're describing does not fit with the symptoms of a hydrolocked engine. I'd go over the ignition system first.

The last attempt to start resulted in the starter not wanting to turn the crank. I pulled the air filter and the bottom was wet. The gsr tube goes downward from there and there was evidence of water in that tube.
That is all the troubleshooting I have been able to do as of yet. I pray that it is ignition related but fear it is not the issue.

I will have more results as the weather calms down but for now I am rocking the accord wagon.

I don't believe it would be much water but a little is bad. I was driving through the lake at very low rpm's. This road and pretty much all of main street is under 6" to 1 foot of water every time it rains here. This road is about 2 foot of water. I have to drive through this area to get to work. There is no other way around it.

I will post more as I find it out.

OK, I'm confused.
I thought hydrolock was referring to when you suck up water through your intake into your cylinder and try to compress the water (which doesn't work very well and breaks parts).
If it still turned over, is that really considered hydrolock, or just water/moisture in the intake?

All depends on how much water made its way to the cylinders. If you ever hydrolock, don't attempt to restart. Pull the spark plugs out and then turn the engine over. If there is water in the cylinders, it will be expelled out of the cylinders.

He said that it locked, then it turned over. So I don't think he sucked that much water in. If it knocks when he gets it started again, then odds are a rod is bent.

His original post said that it turn over normally, but his later post said it was locked. ?

hahahahahahahaha,

So I got home from work early and pulled the car into my driveway. Cylinders #1 and #4 were full of water.I was going about 20 mph in 4th gear doing about 1000 rpm and was coasting up to a stop sign in 2 feet of water. It sputtered and stopped at the sign. The water was deep enough the only reason I attempted to restart was due to thought enough water made it into my exhaust and had filled it up.

Towed it home and found ^. Well changed the oil, no water. With all plugs out I sprayed some carb cleaner in the cylinders and moved the intake valves open and sprayed compressed air into 1 cylinder at a time until it was dry. next cylinder and repeat. I let all water and carb cl. go out intake manifold because front was jacked up.

Changed oil, new spark plugs and new air filter.

My oem air filter box that is under the bumper (no fender liners, will be buying some soon) which I recently installed was the killer in my life. It was slam full of water. I will be drilling relief holes in that tonight as well. So much for oem. I would have had better luck with a short ram today.

Anyway everything clean and go to start it. Well starter sounded like **** (which in a gsr with a/c is very hard to get to.
Here is the funny part. I bought this car from 20secondhatch from DFW and he is such a shitty seller and honda guy.
This car is leaking so much oil. (different subject).
Well the bottom starter bolt was broken (rusted already and you can tell it has been broken for a while) and the starter mount for the bottom had been previously welded. I know because I broke these welds today.

And that is what saved my car. My starter. Because the bottom bracket was broke and shitty welded and the bolt head was missing the little tension spread the starter away from the flywheel. So I wasn't even able to try and start my car.

My crank spins free as day with a 19mm socket and 1/2 ratchet.

I have a couple spare b-series starter laying around so no big deal.

But I did find out what starter I need for an H2B. A 94 gsr. It has the spokes (??) sticking out and not in like a B16 starter that pushes out when starting.

I will be back in about 30 minutes when I get a different starter in there and the car is started.

At this point I think I am gravy. Will keep updated.

Well, that would definitely be hydrolock.
Hopefully the initial shock didn't bend any rods. Good luck with that!

Ok different starter installed. Took a couple strokes to start up but she's running.
That's because I tried turning it over with no plugs in and the dizzy unhooked when I heard some nasty noises. This caused for a partially flooded situation. I left to go get some oil, new air filter and some new plugs.

Anyway she is up and running. Muffler and cat must still have water in them because it bellows out some smoke. But I hear thats normal.

Will be replacing the o2 sensor. I have to take the tranny off to fix the rear main seal leak as well so I will tend to the broken bolt then.

In my eyes I consider this another db8 saved because the previous owner was obviously a dumbass.

Also I will be replacing the oil pan gasket shortly and will inspect the rods and bottom end more closely.

I hope the water doesn't rust my muffler because I put a apexi WS2 on there about 3 weeks ago.

Anyway to anyone concerned, she is running and a test drive tomorrow but I did grow ***** and rev it up to 5k rpm after it got up to operating temp.

No oil in the coolant resevoir.
I consider this my get out of jail free card.

Peace.
