different oil pans according to what?

you need to get a vtec oil pan.

I would recommend just getting a gsr one so you definitely wont have any trouble.

an LS, I believe, is deeper than agsr, but I could be wrong and have it backwards.

You need the VTEC oil pan. LS oil pan will not work on a GS-R block.

ls/b20/b16 oil pans are the same, itr/gsr are the same so you cannot interchange them without swapping the oil pickup at the same time.

Backwards is correct, gsr has a deeper oil pan cause of the girdle.

So the Ls/girdleless blocks can't be used on blocks such as the gsr.
