RPMs bouncing like a basketball!
After I drive for a while and stop at a red light of a stop sign, my RPMs starting bouncing like crazy! Like from 500-950. I goes back and forth about the speed of a turn signal. As soon as I accelerate, it goes away, and then comes back as soon as I stop again. Also if I leave it in gear and let off the gas, ya know, to be loud and cool! LoL! The car will rev to about 1200 and stay there and then when i take off it has no power and misses a little. Everything is fine though when im driving. All the problems are when idling. Oh, I have 96 LS. Please let me know if anybody knows or thinks they know whats up with my car. Thanks guys!
I personally think its the cap and rotor.check all the connections on the ignighter and check the cap and rotor on the distributor once again.almost 80% sure thats what it is.My car had that probmel too for a lil while.lmk how it goes!
Its probably your FIACV (fast idle air control valve) or your IACV. I believe theres an article on here that shows how to take them out and clean them.
my old car did that. Everytime i came to a stop light. the RPM starts bouncing up and down between 500-1000. I took those 2 things off and cleaned them out and put them back in. and all gone.

Thanks but, i've already cleaned the AICV. It helped a little but, didnt cure it. I have been thinkin about replacing my distributor. I have heard something about that it may be giving out a weak current.
Oh yeah. When I first start it up, it jerks when I take off until the motor gets warm. A girl I work with had a very similar problem and an exhaust shop told her that her cat was clogged. She got the dealership to replace it and it fixed the problem. Its a kickass excuse to get rid of my stock cat but, does anybody think that could be my problem? Or could this be distributor related as well? Thanks Guys!
Stranded? For real? It hasnt gotten any worse so I guess i figured the damage was done and it wouldnt go beyond that. How much is a distributor? Can I install it myself? Never done anything with the distributor before. Thanks!
