Technically you've got 100hp.
Maybe 70 to the wheels.
It will be fast enough and be fun enough to drive to be entertaining.
I say buy that and drive it until it dies on you. Then swap in a d-series or something bigger.
If you stick with the d-series boost it.
Drive it and learn, then once you've learned a lot about what you want to do and have saved money. The do it. But keep other things your priority. School, family, retirement.
(please don't tell me I'm the only 18 year old with a Roth-ira)

yeh at your age you are prob one in 1 mill that has a Roth-ira good for you for starting so early. For the op ek forever had some great advice. Really look the car over check the rear quarter pannels for rust, make sure tha the inner fenders are in good shape. remember you are dealing with a 15 year old car. But if it is solid and a good price go for it
2k isn't bad. But if that's all you have that's all you have.
Drive it with the radio off.

I have the same car, mine has a d16a6 swap in it. Great car, it'll be fun to drive and easy to swap when you get to that point. My first advice, and the first mod I ever tried, is to swap out those vinyl seats.

They're okay cars, nice for starters, why not. They're quick in some ways, but the CX is the crappiest model honda made in 92-95, but it's okay b/c if u decide to upgrade it it's also the lightest. It won't take you long to figure out hondas are slow as **** unless u do work to them (swap or turbo). For a starter car, I'd say what the hell, the engine's not even worth money, so I wouldn't get antsy about selling that, but you can buy a D16Z6 for 50-150 bucks and it'll swap right in there with the existing mounts, axles, piping, etc. Just need to wire VTEC up (2 wires). That's what I'd do if I was you, it'll make your car pretty snappy for that much money (you're increasing the hp to 125 flywheel hp, about 105 at the wheels, it's a huge upgrade from the current B8 that's in there.
That you can live with for awhile until you decide what to do next. I'm big into domestics and even I was satisfied w/ the power the Z6 has, it's no 440, but for what it is it's good 'n snappy.
Then from there you can stick with it, wait, leave it in there, sell the car, turbocharge it (you can turbocharge them to like 200whp on stock internals for like 1500 if u shop around for ur parts, so they make great boost motors), or swap a diff motor in.
Frankly I'd buy it and swap a Z6 in, then see where u r from there in some time when u got some more money.
The Z6 or a JDM D15b shouldn't cost you more than 200 bucks. So don't buy from hmotors or something of the sort because that's just a waste of money (paying almost 1 grand for a JDM D15B shipped). You can easily pick up a Z6 for aorund 150 bucks, max 300 if it's in GREAT condition, go for it

^^ I totally agree. The z6 or a y8 would be a great upgrade.
That tranny will really hold you back though. I suggest at least getting a dx. Or if you aren't partial to a hatch get an ex coupe. Or an si hatch.
Those last two tranny's are superior to others in that chassis line.

what the hell is roth-ira??
my uncle said he'd get me a $500 car..but there were 2 Sis for sale around here one was turbo[i don't like turbo]for $7000 i think and the other had a b18 swap and stage 4 clutch for $4500..i didn't know what the stage 4 clutch was for and since i've never physically driven a stick i didn't wanna mess that up..but he thinks they're too fast or whatever so i think if i show him the 70hp and $2000 he might get it if i pay him back some..
but i thought about trying to get a b16 for a while cause i don't like D series that much but they're so cheap and more horsepower i might as well get that if i can get this car..so what do you guys think i should do since you've been around hondas a lot longer than i have..?

^^ Stock civic's are super slow, are cheap to get insurance for, cheap to fix, and sip gasoline.
I am not a fan in the least of a b16 unless you get a smokin deal on it. There are much better engine choices. If I had the money for a b16 I'd rather have a b18b non-vtec with a decently geared tranny. Faster, more torque, easier to drive, and more displacement for more potential boosted or N/a. And b18b's can be had for $300-600 dollars. Compared to the ~$2000 price range of the b16. It's over-rated, overpriced, and I have to over-rev it to get power.
A roth-ira is a retirement investment fund. It matures when you're 50 no matter when you start it. It's a high interest savings. A typicall statistic is if I put $150 a month in it from now until I'm 50 (18-50) I'll have over $1,000,000 when I withdraw it tax free.
