Default Not sure what the problem is

My buddy has a s2000 and he was having an issue he doesnt have internet so i am speaking for him. Here is the problem I drove it last night no problem he gets in today drives for a few hours and doesnt notice any problems. He gets home and going to back in and when he engages the clutch a noise that he described it as a really bad knock starts.( He said the noise starts if it is in neutral or any other gear.) And there is no noise when the clutch is all the way out. So plz help he thinks throw out bearing or clutch.
