Well at 80k it's finally to replace the stock pads after a few seasons of autocross and daily driving. I guess I'm easy on the brakes on the street.
Anyhow, after sifting through myriads of old thread on pads, I was just hoping to get some new perspective on a good pad that is practical for racing, daily driving and an HPDE or two. Dusting is not an issue but I don't want a pad that squeeks too loud.
I don't really mind the stock pads; they've been good to #97-0050 in DS class but if the stopping power of, say, Hawks or GT's are worth the dusting and price I'll try something new.
TIA
,
Matt

Ive run them on Brembo blanks and the Cobalt rotors w/o problems. They do make more noise than stock, esp when cold, but it doent bother me.

I love the gt sports but they a much louder than stock! Cold/hot, doesnt matter, low speed stops they scream.

I went from stock to Axxis Ultimates, and liked the increased stopping feel. I thought I didn't mind dust, but those things changed my mind; they dust a lot. I didn't notice any increase in noise.
I wanted to try the Cobalt GT Sports next, but I happened to need pads right when they were switching compounds. I got Carbotech Bobcats instead. I'm happy with the stopping power, but I feel like I get less initial bite than the Ultimates. But they dust much less, and no increased noise either.

I've been extremely pleased using the "old" GT Sport pads for daily driving and HPDE track events. They almost never squeal for me.
Now that Cobalt has come out with their new line-up, I had the following exchange with the folks there. I have not yet telephoned to follow up, which I will probably do after the Expo.

Since I don't like to change pads just for track events, I basically want to get the most aggressive pad compound that won't squeal (at least, not much) on the street. I've been VERY happy with the old GT Sport pads.
Which of the pads in your new line-up should I be looking at?</TD></TR></TABLE>

Well, I just ordered a set of the Axxis Ultimates from Importrp.com
After doing a little research, they are labeled under the "pbr" brand and are basically the same pad with different branding. These guys offer the Deluxe, Metal Master and Ulitmates for our cars for a lot better price than some of the other mail-order companies.

The rotors you use don't make any difference. You can use them with stock rotors, Autozone rotors, or any other rotors you want.

i just put on a new set of the Cobalt GT Sports with a new set of Brembo blanks, and these new pads squeal like a bitch. I might just put a set of OEM's back on the street nd leave the GT's for the Track.

Either way.
Cobalt shows some resellers on their website.

I've been using a new Nissin compound that came out early this year. They call it their "super" performance compound. It is a ceramic pad.
So far, ~ 500 miles, no dust on my white JDM 16's. Which is exactly what I wanted. Plus they have a better bite than OEM pads.
I have a second set of pads for the track (Cobalt VR's), so I don't plan on testing these on track, but I'm sure they will perform well on an Autocross course.
Best of all, they are ~$45
I bought mine through ImportRP.com, they're old friends of mine, so if there are a few people interested in these pads, I can get a groupbuy price.

Might be interested, its brake time for me as well. Let me know how bad they dust up your whites over time, I have some too
