The head is shot? and the timing doesnt catch? Timing is fixable but what does he mean by shot? The valves are bent?

take the car to a mechanic that will give you a reason as to why the head is "shot" and not one that just says so.

It all depends on whether the pistons smacked the valve or not. You won't know until you pull the head off.

most likeley the pistons are still good, it is kind of rare when the pistons hit the valves from the timing being off, but it does happen frequently ......... i would ask him if all checks out except for the head how much he would sell for, a good machine shop can remove and replace the valves for about an average of $220 (with the head allready removed)....FYI

Timing belt probably broke and you could have bent some valves. IF you are lucky, you didn't bend the valves, and you can put in a new timing belt and the car will run. but that's very rare. Most likely, you will need to pull the head and replace the bent valves.

If this is an ls motor just get a vtec head and your good.
Maybe he is telling you the head is shot so you will sell the motor to him cheaper? Just a thought.

i cant really test anything until i buy the car....my friend says it mite be the timing....but i dont wanna take a risk on it...unless i get more ideas of mite what be wrong with the motor....the timing belt looked like it was kind of messed up..it was like peeling off the side like little strings of it a little...i popped the valve cover open...the head still clean just dont really know whats wrong with it....

How many miles does the mototr hae becuz usually at about 115,XXX miles that calls for a timing belt change. I know that from experience and I was one of THE LUCKY GUYS who timing belt went bad and didnt have any bent valves. From it turning over it could be ur dizzy but I wouldnt recommend turning it over too much cuz that will surely bend the vales if not already bent. Now if it has over the alotted lilage due for a timing belt then thats what it is. Timing belt. Like I said crrect me if I am wrong just going from what happened with my engine.

Yea you are right man if it turns over its not needing a new motor. Its either the dizzy or the timing belt. Good luck and I hope she gets up and running

There is barely a chance that u didnt bend a valve or more, if the timing belt breaks at a speed u probably bent a valve. It happened to me on a saab 9000 turbo and i was going about 60

Well 94lspower I was pullin out of work to go to lunch and I didnt bend a valve took everything apart and checked . When I went to go to 2nd gear it just cut off I thought I might have stalled out but timing belt was the issue.
