Millage instead of the light..
Does anyone know of a maintenance schedule that relies on the millage of the car instead of the dash lights?
I just changed the interior and exterior air filters and they were nasty. I don't want to rely on the idiot lights to let me know when something is needed..
Suggestions?
Thanks!

well we recommend that people go by the lights... don't get me wrong sometimes its not right but for the most part they are pretty accurate...its up to you though. I tell people daily about the oil life light and they have no idea about it. Ive got people coming in for oil changes every 3000 miles and they are at like 50-60 percent! i don't think Honda would have implemented it if it weren't somewhat accurate.

just wondering...are you saying that people should be doing it at the recommended 7500miles?
personally i do mine every 3000. every other car i have owned has been 3000miles and an oil change is the cheapest, most effective form of car maintanence.

I use to change it every 3,500 miles but after putting in mobil 1 syn i wait every 5 k miles which is around 30 or 20% oil life for me syn will last longer from what ive read so just follow the honda gauge unless you really beat on the car.

Who knows how it really reads the oil life if your engine blows or etc from no warning light or your at 8 k with 30% oil life and something happens its there fault then because it says to use there system and wait until 20 or 15% oil life just relax dont sweat it to much.

I don't think there is any major maint until you are like 15k miles into your car. Before that you probably want to do tire rotation at 10k and oil change whenever you feel like it.
The oil life and other monitors work by using the average engine RPM and a few other factors that come from the ECU. The OLM does not actually read the quality of the oil, viscosity, dirt, or anything else about the oil directly, only the environment that it has been subjected to.
