what do I need for....
A D series swap (D16z6/ D16y8). But before you guys go "search" on me or "FAQ" I just want to let you guys know I did that too. I just wanted some feedbacks and guidence? on this
Well I've been thinking seriously about a swap and with the way gas prices are going up I'm going more towards a D series swap at this time, though a b16 would be so much sweeter! Well I wanted a D16z6 but trying to find one can be kinda hard so I think I'll go/settle for the y8. I own a 91 CRX hf 5 speed with the crappy *** gears! Yes I know it saves gas so why swap?--> But previous two owners pretty much beat it so not so much anymore
That's why I want the swap and the little get up and go cuz when I try to get onto the hwy damn slow as hell! Basically I'm tired of it after the two months I've just bought it.
Kinda new still to the import/tuning scene as well as to the CRX. But I did some looking/searching/reading etc. and I got that because my stock engine is a D series another D series swap would be direct swap? No mounts or anything would be needed? Is this correct? Though I think I need a new mount for one side. Also I read about the OBD stuff guess I'm not at all too sure of it and the problem in swaping and changing OBDs
Anyways that's why I need the help. Oh also I got from the reading that says I don't need the tranny and that I can use the stock crx Si or Dx trannies? What about the HF tranny? Anyways I need help on a list of what I would need for the swap so I can go out and get what I need and don't need. I have an idea but not too sure. This swap will be more so for a daily commuter not speed yet!
Please help if you can TIA
Aslo saw around a few JDM zc engines for sale as well (locally) but being in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and not knowing about JDM engines and emissions would I pass with a jdm zc engine? Or any JDM engine? Thanks

ummmm, im making almost the same gas milage with my b16 then when it had a d series. just my .02 but do what you really want to do, not what you think is going to save 2.50 a week at the pumps. But to help you a little, if your set on it. The d series should drop right in. Stay OBD0, yes I know OBD1 is the new "thing" but Im not a trendy little f*ck. I like my ECU LED damn it!! So stay OBD0 and you will be golden, you can use the dx or si trans, even the hf if you really wanted to. It will accelerate slowly but get you better gas milage. I would personally recommend going with a DOHC ZC (pretty much direct bolt in), or a B series, but thats just me. If you are going to want it fast later spend the money on a decent engine with a good amount of power now.
Well I know what you mean on the b16 swap/ $2.50 at the pumps but I've never own any premium gas cars, so I know I won't be used to it as well as I got schooling plans on the way so only in that sense. I'm used to my budget of $25 bucks or less at the pump
Though later later on I can get the b16 into the crx and maybe a GSR or something else nicer into the EJ. As far as using my HF tranny well I guess if I can use it then that's out of the question because **** is pretty much same as the engine garbage?! Can I use a z6/ y8 tranny instead or no just CRX trannies? But as far as me spending money later to make it faster no not a chance on a D series, just daily commuter.

Like I said I'm not too sure of the OBD stuff but will have a shop help with that. Also being direct swap, what about the axels and shift linakge etc. considering I might or might not use stock tranny?
Right now I know I just need the engine because if I use stock crx tranny it's a direct fit but not sure on axels, shift linkage, ecu and whatever else not sure. BUt thanks so far
P.S. if I went out and did what I really really wanted it be a B series for sure but the K series in just trying to take over the picture as well
...But the DOHC ZC it's going for say $800-$1000 would that be a fair price or try to bring it down? Though I always try to bring things down if I can. Trying not to spend a lot on the swap, total would be $2000 or a tad bit NO MORE WITH LABOR...anyone knows on JDM and WI emissions let me know as well....

So wait, im really confused what motor is in now...and if you want to save gas then why not a d15...if you hook up a z6 or y8 you can just run without the vtec that way you dont have to convert...but seriously the reason why you want a y8 or z6 compared to an a6 is for Vtec, and if you want that you might as well get a b16. This thread confuses me with mixed statements
the stock crappy HF motor is what's in there...like I said the stock one's pretty much beated! Yeah if you want to put it that way I guess it's the VTEC, just want something stronger/better than the HF engine--that picks up-sucks when trying to get onto hwy=(
B16 would be nice, WAS thinking about it but with gas price and never paying premium won't be use to it PLUS schooling ahead?
So if I run without vtec I don't have to convert the OBDs stuff? How would the engine run? I mean like regular with no vtec or like it's chocking/ lacking vtec? or whatver? either way I won't be doing it myself will have a shop do it. Unless easy enough for a buddy to do? Or are you talking about get a D15 non-vtec....??thanks
