would you use these snow tires?
okay the reason I ask is because, my friend was leaving a job at a shell service station and these tires caught my eye, I asked about them and his boss just gave them to me for free. they are most likely 15-30+ years old (the owner said they have been there since he bought the store in 1993). the tires just sat on a tire shelf, I don't see any dry rot or cracking the tires are just really dusty. as far as the size it only says 175r13 and the brand name is "super shell" radial snow tires. so... would you use them, do you think they would be safe?

When an aspect ratio isn't stated, the default is 80. So they are 175/80-13.

There are so many decent tires available at low prices, why take the chance?

A modern-design all season tire is probably better in winter than a 30 yr old design winter tire.
Just get rid of them before you hurt yourself or someone else.

okay I won't use these snow tires, can anyone recommend any snow tires that would be similar to this design, that would have a knobby, deep tread, aggressive mud type like a truck/atv tire but that could fit under an ED. I would like to be able to lift up my car next winter to "4x4" style so I don't get stuck in the snow and I think I would look cool and be different.

Winter tires aren't really made like that anymore. Reason being is that those knobby designs were great at going through deep snow but nothing else. Turns out in the winter time drivers of hondas spend 99% of the time driving through slush, water, hard packed snow and ice not going through deep fluffy white snow which is what knobby tires are for.
If you want to 'lift' your car and give it some 4X4 style with big knobby tires I recommend you get a real 4X4. Hondas are not meant for off roading.

sorry for the confusion, what I meant, what I should have said is that when I want to lift the car I would be putting it back to stock height or 1/2 inch higher than stock. I am not going off-roading or wheeling with the car it will be street driven in Chicago, we get crappy snow on our side streets and alleys that gets pretty deep. and no, I don't want a 4x4 if I did I would get one, what I want is a meaty chunky looking set of tires only. that's all I am asking for.
Well I live close to there and enjoy the same shitty weather you do. NSXTASY lives in the same city you do, he will tell you the same thing I am about to. Get a decent set of winter tires, no the knobby kind. Get something like the blizzak WS-50 or the REVO1.
Yup. Just get good winter tires.
The best time of year to buy winter tires is in the fall, when dealers start receiving shipments for the new season. By the end of winter, they've sold out of a lot of them.

4! Getting 2 up front is pretty much signing your own death sentence. Reason being is that the front of your car will grip but the rear won't....you will fish tail like crazy and get into trouble. You won't save money by getting 2 instead of 4 anyways.
