Default Where to look for 1st bike. Taking course in a couple of weeks.

I've been searching around for a couple of weeks now. Don't want to buy new so have been looking at craigslist and ebay.

Looking for a cruiser under 750cc. What are anyone's thoughts on the best hunting strategy? Newspaper is another option but everything seems over priced and over powered when I've checked that out.

Looking at one ebay auction but I'm unsure how the bike will ride because of the mods done to it, mainly the drag bars. It's a 1984 Honda Shadow VT700C w/15,000 miles. No, I'm not the seller trying to drum up business either. I don't know if it's OK (probably not) to put a link to a sale in this forum but I will if anyone thinks it's OK.

Auction is $1.5K now ending tomorrow. Any thought? Mods done to the bike:

Completely repainted - black
New drag pipes
New Harley Sportster saddle and rear seat
New 36” drag bars mounted to new 6” dog bone risers
New micro turn signals
New plugs
Engine has been repainted

Any thoughts on this as a first bike. Looks real good in the pictures.

DS

wooo.... 23 year old motorcycle, best see that thing in person unless you want to be doing the mechanical repairs yourself.

*points at signature* Honda bikes are just as reliable and long lasting as their cars.

Even still, is there any chance for you to check it out and have someone you know with a M license test ride it?

I appreciate the response. As far as someone test driving it.....my brother lives in Texas now and my Uncle in Arizona. The only other people I know who ride are casual aquintances. I wouldn't feel comfortable asking them to take a 65 mile ride with me to test drive a bike on such short notice.

Plus I have the boys this weekend (divorces suck) and I really can't get away myself. Auction ends tomorrow at 11PM EST. Decisions, decisions.

I see the point of being cautious bididng on a 23 year old bike you've never seen in person.....I guess there would be nothing wrong with posting a picture without the link. I'm really not the seller here guys. Just trying to figure this all out.

Bro, you would be surprised what some people will do for fun, especially when it involves this sport. I'd say just throw it out there, someone will go with ya.

do NOT confuse motorcycles with automobiles... They are not created equal and do NOT have the same turnover rate or service life. And indeed I bet someone you have never met before save over the Internet WOULD give you an unbiased assessment of the scooter. Is that the picture of the bike above? if so, she looks clean, and nothing apparent form that single picture. Remember that is not a free pass mechanically, however that thing looks pretty good with fair mileage

I honestly wouldn't buy too old of a bike or a fixer upper as a first bike. Biggest mistake I made
