what are his plans for the motor??if its just basic bolt ons, tell him hes wasting his money.

read below if you want to waste money...

I"d get used DC/Greddy headers....4-1 if your looking for top end. Intake since your not located in CA get a cheap $10-$40 intake with a k/n filter....done deal...if your buddy is going to buy these parts new...well i wont even comment on that...

The most expensive he can buy is AEM V2 or a Power Chamber Intake. Performance wise a pipe is a pipe.

he wants to make the most out of the motor that he can with out turbo. i said headers and intake would do him some good cause he has a greddy evo 2 exhaust. so basicly all motor with the upgrades. 160 whp is what he wants to hit.

I am not trying to bash on the D. i have had two Z6's in two diff cars.

1990 hatch, I/H/E (SLOW, 15.7 at best)
1993 del sol T3 8 psi (quick, didnt hold the boost)

i just bought a b18a1 and i gotta say the b-series is just beffier all the way around, the single stick is just not worth the trouble, take it from a guy who has done it.

D-series==>Bottomless Money Pit

B-series==>Performance Oriented Investment

so he wants to dig up 60+ whp?? thats never "easy" then you want to throw in the fact that its n/a single cam.... well maybe with full skunk2 valve train, skunk2 stage III cams, comptec full race header, edlebrock victor x i/m (do they make that for single cam? if not a skunk2 one), bbk 70mm t/b, aem v2 intake, chipped ecu for higher rev limit, then maybe a 75 shot of NOS, even then i dont know? and for less than that he could prolly get a type r motor.

You'll never get 160 with bolt ons. + cams you'll hit 145hp and run into drivability problems unless you tune or build up the valve train (valves, retainers, springs, etc) cams are useless without those and a head job. And at 145hp probably 120 is gettin' to the wheels.

Why not just boost it man? Down in Renton you won't be able to keep up with anyone else with I/H/E. Everyone's swapped.

so i should tell him to save up for a swap cause he has about $1000 saved up and cant get a b16 or b18. so i should tell him to get another 1000 saved and buy a b16 from the local honda yard and swap it in. (1,800) for a b16 at a junk yard.

Tell him to save up for a b18b the LS one. Maybe go down to rainier ave auto depot and find one. They might swap it in for cheaper than any other place too. But if you got time and tools, swap it in yourself and save $500-$700 in labor. Definately save up. or boost it and take it down to INTEC Racing in Kent and tune it w/e floats your boat.

Why doesn't he want to turbo it? He can't make 160 hp with a Greddy header, intake, Koyo radiator, exhaust, and a Skunk2 stage 1 cam on a D16. N/A D builds are a waste of time IMO

I'm sure the Koyo radiator would add like 5-10hp. lol.

Oh great, another kid wanting to go "n/a" and get b-series power out of his sohc.

Before he dumps $2000 in bolts ons to make his car .5 seconds faster in the 1/4 tell him to join a good forum and do some research before he puts himself in debt.
