Well it's hard to say without tearing the engine apart. It could been a fixed up engine by the last owner. One thing about used engine from a distribution company is there is no history behind it. So you might just got lucky and had a fixed up one.
what color's ur valve cover??? yellow would be spoon, pearly green would be jun... it could possibly point to who built your engine if it is indeed a built crate motor.

valve covers change easily and often. I wouldn't use this for a valid point of reference.

i'm not saying its proof positive.. im just going by the fact that the op said he bought a crate engine from japan... but yea it's not exactly the most reliable way of identifying a motor, its just a start

my theory is ...
Someone stole a type R, shaved everything off the motor so nobody could identify it, or know what the setup was at the street races, built the **** out of it, street raced it. Then it got stolen or he recked it and it ended up with you.
Or its not a real type R motor, so the shaved everything so no one would know.
Wont the police impound your car if they find a engine with no identification? Why would you buy a random motor?, even though you got lucky and ended up with a faster then stock engine

its not shaved...the block is like that...its have nothing to show that it be shaved...the only thing i found strange at the jdm shop its the blue tag its not there...but i dont care...almost all the jdm is stolen in japan so...and the valvecover is not the original...and the police in my place doesnt know about jdm car so its not a problem
i run a chipped p28 ecu with a itr setting vtec 5800-no cut...and my plug are brown, so its run good except the busted valve seal...but i go to the dyno in 2 week to tune it on my hondata s200 and re-do my valve seal too, put some tri-y headers, ctr pulley and ITB...hoping to have some 220-230whp...and its 110% sure the motor is virgin of any grinding...the casting is like that...its virgin...its like its came like this when he born.

im intrigued. give us updates.
usually you can tell if something has been ground off, but this looks like it was cast without the stamps at all. i wonder if its a mid/low compression big bore sleeper? am i right in thinking 220 isnt very high compression readings for a "high static compression" motor?
