i live in maryland and bought my s2 from new york. you dont pay sales tax for the state you buy it in, just in your state when you register it. you will need to do any emiisions related procedures once it is registered in your state, what ever they may be.

ic, so if the car was smogged in the state that it came from , would u have to re-smog it in the state that ur in? (because smog laws differ from each state i believe)

i'm in cali too and bought mines from arizona. if the owner has the title in hand it will save you the most amount of time.
if not, you're gonna have some difficulties.

as far as smog goes, yes, you'll have to smog it cause you're registering it in california.

The guy dsnt have title in hand, he said once i buy it and new owner the bank will Send me the title?

he even if worst case bank dsnt send it, i can still register my car under my name in CA as long as their is a bill of sale.

are you getting a loan? if so, check with your bank institution and they'll give you the break down.

Ok first of all you'll have to smog it in cali and once that passes you can go register it. Heres the thing though, even with the bill of sale, you need the title dude. If you're getting a loan, then your bank needs to provide you paperwork indicating that you are paying them and they are holding the title.

Put it this way, if the title is still with the guy or the guy's bank .. that means there is a lien on it NOT under your name which means you are not cleared to register. Therefore you have to wait.
