1999 Accord shaking
My son has a 1999 Accord. He states it shakes when starting out and then again over 60 miles per hour. I know he has had the engine mount replaced. What kind of problem does this sound like? He also states there is a sound to the shaking? (not sure what kind of sound).
Check the tires on the front to see if there is unusual wear or not enough tread. My car shakes at 60+ because of the drivers side tire in the front is almost bald. Luckily I have many stock tires :D
Here's a quick and easy check to see if it is still the engine mounts: With the car at a stop and in neutral, I'm assuming there is no shaking in the steering wheel. When he puts it into drive but with a foot on the brake (thus not moving), does the steering wheel shake? Now have him keep his foot firmly on the brake and press the accelerator with the other foot. Let the engine rev up a little then take the foot off. Is there a quick shake?
OK, these are actually the signs of a bad engine mount on my '95 Camry with automatic transmission, I'm assuming the symptoms would be the same on an Accord. My '99 Accord doesn't shake at all.
Ask him whether the shaking is continuous if, for example, he is at a certain speed (wheel out of balance) or whether it just shakes a fraction of a second and is related to his putting his foot on or off of the accelerator (mounts?).
