Default What would you pay..... (I know I'm sorry for posting this)

Here's the scenario, I love my R to death but I've been DD'ing it since last october and it's still has the clean title and all of that, yadda yaaaaa...

Either way I was going to get a DD, something that I wouldn't have to be as paranoid about but I would still love to drive, I was leaning towards a 99/00 Si coupe or an RSX-S.

Regardless somebody locally acquired a 01 NBP, front end collision (salvaged title of course). He's rebuilding it right now.... but it's bone stock, interior is immaculate and the rest of the body is mint... It only has 61k miles.. (my clean title one just rolled 137k)

He's asking an upwards of 12k or more... to be honest I don't even know how bad the title kills it, but I do know I wouldn't have a problem DD'ing or tracking it so my anxiety would be a little relieved.

So basically I'm asking would I be crazy to pay in the range of 12-14k for this? To me it almost seems worth it

Personally, I wouldn't pay that much. Front end crash, enough to be totaled, will need a careful and well done rebuild. Plus the accident may have cracked this or that and might not be noticed right away. There are clean titled Rs out there in that price range. You'll have a tougher time getting a loan for a dirty title unless you pay cash.

I'd lean towards an RSX-S myself. You can find 02-03 RSX-Ss in that price range all day long. One locally is going for $11k with 7x,xxx miles. Great amenities for a DD and still a ton of fun to drive. Plus you can park it anywhere and don't have to worry about it being there when you come back.

Yeah the other car I'm looking at is a 06 RSX-S with 6k miles for 19,9 (which i'd have to finance).... or a EM1 that I could swing in cash if I wanted.... but god, I know it sounds twisted to say but I'd almost want one with a busted title just so I wouldn't have to feel bad about anything ever happening to it.... Pretty much I'm trying to get talked out of this because it sounds so tempting.

LOL, understandable. I'm not too familiar with Si's, but aren't those EM1's well sought after by thieves too? Also, if you paid $12k+ for this R, and it was stolen, you'd have a hard, if not impossible, time trying to get back what you paid from your insurance co.
JMO, a good DD is one you don't worry about theft, door dings, and bumper scratches.

You're thinking about too much money.

Get a regular civic coupe from 92-00 & throw wheels/tires, suspension on it & call it a day. You don't need all that powah from the EM1 (insert lots of laughs) or the RSX-S. Spend about 6k & have a good daily driver.

If I were in your boots (yuck) I wouldn't buy that dirty titled car.

I don't mean to bash the caR completely. If the motor is still strong, and with a clean interior, this caR would probably make a good weekend back road/light autox/HPDE warrior for somebody....but for around $10k.

FWIW I paid 6k for mine, totalled due to front end damage. I could have fixed it for less than 2k and sold it, but the rest is history.

Find out what he paid for the car (I presume he didn't wreck it) and offer him say 1-1.5k more than he did. See if he goes for that.

I think I might wait after he has it out on the market for a bit... and once he sees its not as hot of an item as he thinks it is then shoot something that's reasonable..... Everybody here was right, that is a ridiculous price, I guess my brain got clouded with dreams of owning an R that I didn't have total anxiety about everytime I pulled it out of the garage.

RSX would be a more comfortable for a daily driver. Or you can get an 06 Si for the same or cheaper price.
