Tachometer is messed up need u guys help
Hey guys, My friend has a 1994 ex coupe with a b16a swap. His problem is that everytime he floors it, between 7-9K rpm his tach goes up and down. The motor still sounds like it runs to the right rpm but as soon as he hits 7k it just hops from 8 then back to 7, then from 7 to 9. It is really messing up his track time, because he always hits the rev limiter. We swapped gauge clusters today but it was still the same story. When we put his cluster into my car i revved fine to 9. but when we put my cluster into his car it was the same story (never had problems with my gauge cluster). could somthing be wrong in his tranny? it doesnt sound like clutch slip. his clutch still bites pretty good.
Remove your distributor cap and rotor. Then remove the black plastic shield. You'll be able to see your ICM at this point. ONE AT A TIME remove the spade connectors and pinch them just a little bit with a pair of pliers to snug up their fit on the spade terminal. Also inspect for corrosion and hit it with a wire brush if there is any. Sometimes the connectors will loosen up and will get an erroneous tach reading if they are not a good connection. Also inspect the plugs on the wire harness for corrosion. Make sure the connection of the terminals on the coil are good as well. Typically its ICM's or Coils that fail in Honda ignitions. If they've been replaced before, just make sure the connectors are snug and have a good connection.
