Default Racing harnesses

What do you guys think of wearing racing harnesses on the street? Is it safer or actually more dangerous for the driver?

there is several variables...considering that even if the harness is installed correctly it's dangerous to wear it without a rollcage in the event of a rollover....just like how it's dangerous to have a rollcage and no harnesses in the event of a rollover because the rollcage now becomes another hazard....as for wearing the harness on the street it's all preference i find it hard to do things like merge and whatnot with it on because i can't look behind me that well....so i don't wear it unless i think i might need it haha

In most states (CA being one last time I checked) it's illegal to wear non-DOT approved harnesses on the street instead of your factory style 3pt seatbelt. The only harnesses I've seen that are DOT approved to replace factory harnesses are the ASM harnesses by Schroth, and even those don't pass muster in a lot of places.

Any regular 4pt harness is really stupid on the street, as a frontal impact will pull the lap belt up over your stomach (you'll submarine under it) and splatter some internal organs in any kind of real crash. That's why every real race sacntioning body requires 5 or 6pt harnesses. the 3pt belts in cars prevent that, as do the ASM belts. 4pts don't.
