Default Clicking/knocking when clutch engages (not clutch click)

Hey guys/gurls, whenever I engage the clutch and put some load on the tranny/axles, I hear the odd click. It's almost like hitting two wooden blocks together lightly.

It's not the clutch click which occurs when the pedal is pressed. I don't have that.

What could it be? Do axles click when they start to go bad?

TIA TIA TIA!

does ur engine want to stall when its makig that noise? what i thought to be a bad clutch turned out to be a seized thrust bearing... it was a loud clicking that emanated from the engine bay area... id check ur wheel bearings n axles if the noise happens only during turning or load/noload situatuions

When axles go, you'll hear clicking when your turning and such. Bad axels can be caused by a number of reasons, a torn boot is a common one.

Don't think it's axles.

Hmmm, that's odd, I woulda thought it was an axle.

But the engine doesn't bog, and it will do it if you put load on the tranny. Reverse or forward. It's really annoying.

I had a loose mount once on my other car, and that was the problem, but I'm pretty sure the mounts aren't loose here.

Thanks!

it's probably the axles. my "click" went away when i put fresh grease in the inboard axles, however it came back a few months later, i guess the grease turned watery again

check your motor mounts. it might be the engine hitting the frame. i've had that happen to me before.

Typically this "click" is sometimes surprisingly simple.... just axles not being at the correct torque anymore.

I would just back out the axles nuts (or buy new ones) and then just torque them correctly... which I believe is 130ft/lbs.

^^^ Thanks! I'll try re-torquing them as well.

I also wouldn't be surprised if it was the throwout, it is worn and is making noise in the morning.

RPR, how to tell if the mount is bad? Will it be all cracked, etc.? And what mount went bad for you? TIA

actually i just rethought, shifting casued it to make noise, not engaging load on them. check your suspension. loose bolts and whatnot. and check lug nuts and wheel bearing

I've never really encountered that, although mine get tightened down to atleast 260lbs

That knock maybe your suspension moving around. I accidentally forgot to tighten the upper bolts on the upper control arm and it caused a "knock" Now it doesnt do it anymore.

Mine did the same thing, but it wasn't the axles as it would happen when the car was still. It went away before I sold it...

Mines is doing it too. Sounds like metal sound.Coming from d-side, front. Happens in first gear when letting off the clutch, after it engages. Also sometimes in reverese. And also when going over speed bump. Randomly happens. Checked suspension, everythings tite. Driving me nuts!!!

I have the exact same problem. I recently had the clutch replaced along with the wheel bearings. When I got it back there was a clicking sound coming from my front left that wasn't there before. I had replaced my axles just 11 months before this clutch job so I thought my mechanic screwed something up. Before I could diagnose the problem, my H23 blew and went ahead and did the JDM H22A swap. Afterwards, my passenger side axles went bad, so I went ahead and replaced them both with new performance axles. Do my dismay, the clicking I originally heard after the clutch job never went away. The noise sounds EXACTLY like a bad axle. Is it possible for a brand new high quality axle to click due to another component's failure? Please advise. Below are the symptoms.

1. Usually occurs shortly after start-up and usually goes away.
2. Happens only when putting load on the axles.
3. Occurs more often in reverse with the wheel turned.
4. Metal on metal sound.
5. Clicks can be felt through the clutch pedal.
6. Occurs almost exclusively while letting out the clutch.

one simple answer to one simple question. take it to the shop or (help from friend/s) take the tranny out/apart and find the problem.

talk is cheap to guess the problem and action is costly but will solve the problem.

Talk is cheap and valuable. Very few people have the money to take their car apart looking for a problem. Talk narrows down the possible causes.

Just the other day, I heard the click while not engaging the clutch (just turning the wheel) which makes me think it is not the tranny. My mechanic seems to think it is bushing failure and suggested buying a complete bushing kit and starting from there.

I'm not sure what the problem is. When I jack the car up there is no play in any of the suspension components. The problem seems to occur when turning the steering wheel at low speeds, particularly when backing up or starting from a dead stop. Usually I notice it when the car is cold and I put it in reverse to pull it out of the garage. When I put it back in first to get going, I hear it again. However, it does happen when making a turn from a standstill, like at a stoplight.

Any suggestions other than take it to a mechanic?

STFU dude you're an idiot, possibly the dumbest person that posts in these forums, sitting back laughing or some **** giving people all kinds of wrong information. Go play Frogger on the freeway or something.
