How Did You Find the Track Surface At Gingerman - ITR Expo ?
Just wondering how you guys found the track surface at Gingerman this year ?. Was it pretty smooth ?, did you notice any areas that may have been repaired in the off-season from last year ?. When we ran there last year it was in really good shape ovarall, but I found the Wiggley Field corners (8 through 10) to be kind of rough with some dips and rough road surfaces on the inside edges of the corners. Is that area still the same this year ?. Looking to be back there on June 24th, any info would be appreciated. thanks

I have no track to compare to, but the only thing that really bothers me is that the curb at track out on turn 3 has a rather nasty looking chunk out of it, something you would not want to hit. I look at it everytime I go by, and it gives me the creeps!
And I suppose Wiggley field isn't the smoothest, it is a little unsettled coming out of 9.

Its the same as last year.. Oh yea if you have a RWD car dont come out of turn 6 too hot and heavy on the gas if you go onto the concrete extension its kinda slick.. you will be backwords real fast.. I dont know how I know that.
thanks for the replies, you would think they could fix the pot holes at least, oh well we shall check it out soon. thanks for the info. Hey Mike, keep that baby pointing forward, it runs quicker that way

The track pavement surface is basically okay - fairly smooth and grippy, no ruts. You mention potholes but I did not see any. No obvious patch-type repairs. Yes, there are concrete patch-type areas in a few places on the line, but they were well-blended so there was nothing to disrupt the balance of the car. They've even filled in the dip at the apex of 11 that was there in former years, so it's nowhere near as severe as it had been. (Perhaps that's what you were referring to?)
However, what we DID experience was tire chunks. There were chunks of rubber all over the track, particularly in 9 through 11, even on the line. I've seen a lot of them off line before - particularly through 8 - but never on the line. We got tire marks on our hoods, tire chunks on the insides of our wheels, and new rubber on the outsides of our tires. And I'm sure that's why Ed was feeling some sliding coming out of 9.
Rough and bumpy. Not too hard on the car, but definitely more bumpy than any of our four local tracks (CMP, VIR, LMS, SP)...

I did not notice any repairs on the track surface.
Between turns #9 and #10 (track out of #9) there needs to be some work done on the cold joints (cracks parallel to the direction of the track) between the pavement strips (2 cracks with 3 pavement strips). The strips did not upset the car too awful much... but you did notice them in the steering wheel.
Those cracks will only serve to accelerate the wear if not addressed quickly.
The only other are that seemed to be a 'bad' spot was the apex of turn #11. There is a ~12' long X ~8' wide depressed area that upsets the car quite a bit if the turn is taken 'just right'.

See - I just don't follow the same line twice & then I don't notice these small things
Besides...when you spin off the track as much as I did, you find nice smooth grassy spots to drive on

The track manager told me he was going to repair that spot on the next open day.....that's where I lost my crank pulley bolt

An early apex on turn 1 has a bit of a bump to it. Nothing too bad but noticeable.
How did all that dirt get on the track between 8 and 9 on the second day
Clayton - who is wondering if PMTypeR or anyone else has that picture of grass on top of my car?
