Engine swap question. "Please help"
hey guys i have a 01 civic lx sedan but my motor overheated and i think i migth have cracked the block i already replaced the head gasket and water pump and did the timming belt while at it but its still blowing vapor through the exhaust and overheating.
Now, im pretty frustated with this motor but dont have the money for a k series swap so i thought about sawpping the motor for the d17 sohc vtec and here is where i need help, has anyone done this? would it be worth it or sould i just get a used non vtec and replace it?
I tried doing searches all over but found nothing i would reallu appreciate you guy's imput since its my wifes daily driver and we have a 1yr old that we cant take out in my crx.
Thanks.

In your situation I'd recommend just sticking with the d17a1 engine. It'll be cheap to replace and there won't be any extraneous time or effort put into it.
Many people have swapped to the sohc vtec, but you'd have to replace the header/cat and get a new ECU or a vtec controller... extra cash that it seems you don't really need to spend.

I have a d17a2 for sale, very cheap ($200 for the entire engine). The only thing that may be an issue is that there may be a bent valve in the head. I would be willing to part out just the block and sell you that for $125 plus shipping. The engine only has 30K miles on it.

Well. lets just say if you want a K-swap eventually why not get it now if your so interested???personally i don't think its worth it. but its a valid excuse to get one ^_^. your cars a sedan. it would be even cooler if it was a coupe. anyways. if you got money for the swap. and you want a k series anyways. then buy it now and don't deal with buying another D-series with a Vtec head and ECU/vtec controller. alright. with that said its all up to you now.
