Default Oh No, Another Nissan turned Honda Driver!

Aight aight, I've been driving Nissans for the past five years and got a couple questions about this honda I got at a junkyard. This car is a Canadian, 88' Civic Hatchback, 4spd, D15B1 block, (Head has PM3-7 on it, not sure what the head is from) anyway I drove the car from California to Georgia and this is by far the lightest, most agile car I've driven beside early Z cars, with killer gas mileage too! Anyway my question is how much power is this little car producing? It feels real torquey in all gears some say 70hp but it feels like so much more. This exhaust note is real deep about halfway through the powerband and then a waahhhhh note kicks in and pulls for days. The head looks a lot newer than the block. People tell me it's not vtec which I believe but what is it? Any info would help thanks!

That would be a STD hatchback. No VTEC. You are really making only 70HP though, sorry to disappoint: http://www.efsource.net/specs.php

If you want to wake that motor up a bit, the easiest thing to do is a MPFI conversion. If you don't know what that is, use the red "search" button, there's tons of info on the conversion.

its a 70 hp car lol

the head is the same as the d15b7 that base model civics came with it, and it sucks. i dont know what kind of nissan you drove that you think this car is agile lol but with some upgrades you can have fun with it

It can't be 70hp no! nooo! jk anyway, how much did the 88-91 Si's put out? A guy at the local shop here said it's a Crx Si or Civic Si head? He mentioned hondas are hard to find stock nowadays because so many parts interchange from other models. Is this bad for the car or good? 1.6L head on 1.5L block? is it logical? like I said it feels torquey. dumbass perhaps?

88-91 si's only put out about 100hp..and the d15b1/2 head is the same as the si head so it doesnt really matter what that guy says,,the cam is different but its not even noticable withe dpfi...

My advice to you is do mpfi conversion and swap in a 5spd tranny from a dx or si..good luck

haha, that's because it's slow.

The B2/A6 heads are the same casting. The bore is the same between the 2 motors but the stroke changes so they can use the same combustion chamber.

Thanks for being straight up! like i said it's my first honda and what exactly are dual points? two stages in fuel delivery besides multiple or what? could it explain the exhaust note change and power delivery? Canadian cars are the same as U.S. right? why so many questions? but thanks for the help anyway! the plugs are NGK and are toward the back of the engine ! njn63 you're an *** for that but it's all good! I like the 4 spd tranny but is it weaker than the fives? 3rd gear to 100mph is too much fun for now. oh yeah, I come across a lot of H22's for like little to nothing and rated at 180-210hp is it worth tha swap? &lt;----let's try not to use these anymore.

Basically, it's almost the same thing as a carburetor with primarys and secondaries if you know how that works. At least that's how I've heard it explained.

99% sure the stock head then.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">! njn63 you're an *** for that but it's all good!</TD></TR></TABLE>

haha, i was kidding. My car isn't fast either.

http://www.hasport.com has mounts for the H22 into an EF chassis. I can't remember the specific issues with it but i know the passanger side mount has to be moved.

Holy f*****k about $800 for mounts alone huh? Either way is about the same then.
Good B16, B18 and cheap mounts. Or Cheap (but torquey) H22 with expensive mounts with modification to chasis. hmmmm....let's try ebay. what about turbo? (is it even worth it on the D15?)

Turbo isn't a bad idea, you really need to go MPFI before doing it though as it's a lot safer. Hasport mounts are pricey, i can't remember who else makes them but i know they were more reasonable.

https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1 -190 pages of SOHC turbo stuff haha

no matter what you do you will mneed to do a mpfi swap. so you prob better off doing that first befor eyou make up your mind on what motor you want.

I will definitely be multi pointing the fuel system for starters. Later on down the road is the H22 swap I made my mind up. There is a couple modifications that need to be done but it's worth it to me. basically a promised 200 whp stock! I wonder why I rarely see Preludes actually hooked up, I take it that the performance is already there no? Is the prelude chasis that heavy? I do recall riding in my friends si (prelude) and it hit 140+ with no problem. of course he had an intake mani, nitrous, z rated tires, and a couple small mods but the way it delivers the power is too smooth. The vtec seemed more mature. I'll be scoping out a multi, the junkyard should have em no? or is it a part that has issues?

Dude, search man, there is so much info.

What Nissan did you use to drive for a stock STD to feel "torquey"?

Also DPFI is 2 injectors with 2 runners, and MPFI is 4 injectors (injector per cylinder). DPFI is just 100% for fuel mileage. You need to do a MPFI swap and then a junk yard turbo set up and youll think its the fastest car in the world.

As far as nissans I've driven and owned 240Z,(3) 280ZX's,(2) 240SX S13 chasis. one auto one std. I'm a business man, buy em' cheap, clean em', upgrade interior and tires, and sell em' for double. As far as feeling torquey the bottom of the powerband on nissans are way better no doubt. instant torque. But on the honda the top end is far more agressive. You can choose when to really go ya know? hold it at four grand all day long and mash it with no worries. the nissan starts to die after 5 grand. it's a four speed (88 civic) with little to no weight (yeah one of the lightest i've driven) so what little power it is producing feels like plenty. Just floor it in all corners with no issues on oversteer, little understeer though, and have fun! yeah in a straight line to be honest the old inline six's feel hella torquey off the line and jump to 80mph, but as far as how long and how confident I feel doing so just doesn't compare to the feeling of this little bastard.

Preciate the info on dual and multi points too! I had no idea wtf it was but I see.
it's almost eliminating the carb feel in favor of a more efficient injection system.
that might smooth out my power delivery no?
