Default Building a d16y8

I have a '96 Civic d16y8 and I am in the middle of building the motor. I know for sure the bottom-end is going to be built, but I may also be putting a new cam in. My question is, if I do the cam, can I put it on and start the car right up...or do I need to do something special or get the car tuned first before starting it up?
-Is it recommended to do a new cam?? Thanks

I'd put in a few more things than a cam b4 tuning.. but if that's the only new thing you're adding to get the most of it, yes.

So the car can be started up right away with no problem or does it have to be tuned first?? And at the moment all I have to tune with is VAFC. I just want a base tune right now to get me by until I finish with the motor and get Hondata.

you should be able to start the car up, assuming that the person intalling the cam knows what they are doing. however to get full potential out of the setup, i would take it to a shop and have someone properly tune it.
