Buying a camshaft used... Do they wear out the lobes??? What happens to the cam when its used for 6 to 12 months??? Buying them used might save me a couple dollars... But should i just spend the extra money and get new ones???

 

As long as they are scarred from the lack of oil, they're fine. I've seen alot of used sets of cams and even the ones that look really worn spec out to near new specs. Over the course of time you will lose a litlte lift (generally less then .05mm), but if they've only been used for a few months then they should be minty fresh. OEM cams hold up for 100k+ easily, so its not like they magically wear out over 12k.

 

My cams have over 303K miles, lol. Runnin just fine.
