crashed yesterday, now what?
long story short, i t-boned this lady at an intersection(her fault)going about 25. i got really lucky somehow and although the four panels up front(hood fenders and bumper) all need to be replaced, they are all in their basic forms, a little dented and scratched. the car is very driveable and the A/C even still works. anyway, that is not the important part. my 95 DB8 will be going to a body shop soon enough and i want to know if anyone thinks that it would over complicate things to have them put on the 98 frontend instead. i searched and found one thread (although i am sure there are a million more) that said that the mounting positions are the same for the different year bumpers. i know i need different headlights and turn signals, but is that it? i don't want to ask the body guys to do this and findout when they are putting it back together, that they needed another thing that i didn't know about. from what i understand, the hood and fenders are the same between years. for the record i do not want to do the JDM conversion, so don't bother suggesting it.

can't forget the turn signal brackets.
can't forget the turn signal brackets.
so i will need to tell them to get the bumper(duh), headlights, turn signals, AND turn signal mounting brackets? do the turn signals attach to the bumper or part of the core support? i think the insurance company will give me X amount of money to repare the car, so i will be able to do what i want with that money. however i have never been in a car accident so i don't know exactly how it all works. correct me if i'm wrong.

No, you have to get quotes from body shops, submit them to the insurance company, if they like one, they will say take it here. If you have really good insurance they you can say, Im taking my car here, this is the quote. If you have shitty insurance they will say, all these are too high, you're going to take it here to get it fixed. However, the check is issued in your name and the body shops name....thus you have to find a body shop that will order the 98+ stuff even though you have a 95 model....which most will do since its the same price. However, I had one fender bent up and a busted bumper and that was $2500 worth of work, so its very possible that your car might be totalled out being that you have more damage and the car is probably worth $4k and they total them at 75% value.

different companies do it differently, when i had an accident with allstate they did the estimate themselves and wrote me a check minus my deductible (accident was my fault). another accident with state farm i just gave them the highest estimate i got and they wrote out a check for that amount. both times the insurance co didnt require me to go to a body shop, they wrote me the check and their part was done.
to the op: if buying parts from a dealer the turn signal brackets won't be on there, you gotta buy them seperately. the signals attach to the bumper and the brackets (the brackets sit on the bumper on the back side).

Don't lose hope, just get some quotes and hopefully the insurance goes for it.
I thought for sure they'd total my 98 gsr when someone hit it, the damage ended up being $5000 but the person's Allstate insurance covered it. Sometimes you can be surprised...

her insurance company is nationwide, and actually they cannot tell you where to take your car to be fixed, they may try to make you think that, but they cannot tell you. i got lucky here i hope, because i should have a hook up at the body shop(i.e. they will write an estimate that won't total the car) and i have contacts with a nationwide insurance person who is not dealing with my case(i.e. i can find out from him what will total my car.) i also have the ability to get a good discount on parts from the dealer. hopefully all this will come together and i will end up with a properly repaired 98+ front end DB8. the inspector guy should be out soon i hope. when i was looking under it today, it looked as if the main crossbar (that the foam sits on) was not bent and the two spots that that bar mounts did not seem to be crumpled. the hood was knocked way out of alignment and i thought it was from the frame being tweaked (which would be bad and costly), but i also noticed today that it seems that only the hinges are bent, so that is also good. i guess i'll keep people updated and put up pictures of my car and the other car when i get a chance. anyone know anything about nationwide?

I would assume a shop would get you the parts for a 98+. The insurance inspector will qoute your car for 94-97 parts(since that's what came on it stock), and once you or the body shop recieves the check you should be able to tell them what parts you want, and if it is more than the check you can simply just give them the extra money. I delt with this once when I got hit and bought aftermarket parts, the shop told me as long as I/they spend the check on the car it's ok and not considered insurance fraud... goodluck
i think i will have to find out A-the value of my car, B- what percentage of bluebook value nationwide totals a cars at. then i'll have to get the estimate and if it is more than the totalled value, i'll have to work something out under the table with them, and then get some parts with my discount from a dealer. i basically plan on getting as much money out of the insurance company as long as my car is not totalled, and funding the difference myself. anyone know what percentage nationwide totals out at?
