Need to replace my front tires.. Couple of questions.
I have a 2000 Civic Si, and my front tires are shot. I will be replacing them this weekend but I'm undecided on what I want to get.
Right now the car is sitting on Kumho ecsta 711's. They are 205-50-15's. The backs are like brand new so I will be keeping those.
My question is.. I heard that these tires suck *****. Do you guys think I should go with the same tire just to keep everything matched up, or should I get a better tire, but not have them match the back?
Are Ecsta 711's really that bad? Give me your opinions guys, Thanks!!

The 711 are horrible tire. They should be banned from the face of the earth!
Now what I would do is this... I would put your 711 that in the back in the front and get the Kumho SPT and put them in the back! The reason is so you can finish your 711 off sooner and get another 2 SPTs and put them in the front when the 711 are finish.

Plenty of people would want those. Local race tracks would want them so they could build barriers out of them, the local high school would want them to use as a training aid for the football team. The best idea I think would be to hang them from a tree and let the kids swing on them

You really need to have the same tires on the front and the rear. Here's why. Let's say you have the crappy 711 in front, and the good SPT in the rear. Your car will then grip better in the rear, and it will understeer (will want to go straight ahead when you turn the wheel). Or, if you put the SPT on the front and the crappy 711 on the rear, it will oversteer (the back end will want to come around on you when you turn).
Don't try to economize by only getting two tires. If you have an accident, you'll spend more on your deductible than the difference in the cost of the tires.

But really how bad are the 711's? If they are so horrible why are they still selling them? What is so bad about them? Is it the rate at which they wear, how well they grip or what? What makes them the "crappy 711"?
What makes them bad.... ummmm lets see...
1. They offer poor dry and wet grip.
2. They squeel under braking.
3. They are overpriced for what they offer!
I could keep going on and on and on, since I had them, but I will save you from my long list of complaints!
The SPT is a night and day different when compared to the 711!

How much more expensive is the SPT? If I only change the fronts (which I will) because the backs have like 95%thread, will you be able to see the difference between the 711's and the SPT's? Do they look the same for the most part?

At Vulcan Tire, in 205/50-15, the SPT is $56 and the 711 is $49.

You can see pictures on Vulcan's website.
Looks don't matter. Safety does. You should replace all four tires, if you care about the safety of your car.

I know that it is all about safety, but I do not have the extra cash to spend on the rears when they have over 90% thread. So I am just going to get the STP's for the front. Again, I know it's all about safety, but will it look retarded if I get the STP's on the front and leave the 711's on the back? Will it be very noticeable?
Also my current tires are worn very bad on the outsides. The insides are not even bad at all. Does this mean that the car just needed an alignment/balance, or can it be "camber" problems. I don't know much on this subject so forgive me. I know the car has a camber kit, or at least that's what the seller told me. Can it be that this just needs some adjustment?
Thanks.

I don't know if you are using the term "outsides" and "insides" relative to the tire, or relative to the car.
If you mean that BOTH outside edges on each tire are worn more than the middle of the tread, then that is typically a sign that the tires have been underinflated (not enough pressure).
If you mean that only the ONE, outside edge of each tire is worn more than the center or inside edge of the tire, then that is typically an alignment problem (which could be improper camber or toe) or some other suspension problem (worn bushings, bent control arm, etc).

I'm sorry I didn't explain it well. I meant the outside edge of the tire facing outwards of the car is worn. It is worn pretty evenly on both the front tires. How do I know for sure if it just needed an alignment, or If I have to adjust my camber kit?
Also going back to my previous question, will it be very noticeable If I change just the fronts and put the STP's on compared to the 711's in the rear?

Get an alignment. If it can be aligned to spec without changing the camber kit, you're good to go; otherwise, the camber kit can be adjusted (as part of the alignment) to get it to spec.

Okay thanks alot NSX.
I just called 4 or 5 tire places around here and no one can get the SPT in my size. The only 2 Kumho tires available in my size are the Kumho Ecsta ASX's which I can get for $65 plus $11 for installation, each. And the Kumho Supra 712 which I can get for $85 plus $11 for installation, each.
How is the ASX? The price isnt to bad, and it has pretty good ratings on TireRack. How about the Supra 712? I dont drive my car hard at all, so I dont need anything extremely good. Just a tire that would be good for daily driving and the occasional harder driving. What do you reccomend NSX, or anyone else can also give their opinions.
Thanks.

Well I need new tires on my civic si. Right now the car is on Kumho Ecsta 711's. The rears are close to brand new, just the fronts are really bad.
I am keeping the back tires on (711's) but I am replacing the front tires. Unfortunately the Ecsta 711 is now discontinued, and I can no longer get it.
So my question is what decent Kumho tire closely resembles the Ecsta 711. I dont want my front and rear tires to look completely different.
Thank you in advance.
