skunk 2 springs with stock ap1 shocks
sup guys i just got a 01 s2000 and im wana lower it with the skunk springs..looked and found shocks for like 600 some bucks and thats crazy expensive. what do yall think about just usin the stock shocks?
instant of asking go or not, check out the difference in spring rate.
if that doesn't sway your urge to get those, check out how would the ride suffer when you put the damper out of optimized operating height.

that's of course, you can use ebay crap o spring on stock shocks too, but the bigger question is that do you want to do that.
if you just want it to look slammed then go for it, take strong note on negative affect on ride/handling

do you know if they eat through tires like a son of a bitch, because i dont want that. im sure they throw your camber off a little, but enough to buy new tires every week??

the car has neg. camber from the factory, im not too sure how much worse it gets with skunk2's. its probably not all that noticeable.

Camber only minimally affects tire wear unless you're doing burn outs. The S2000 is VERY prone to toe change, however. Toe will eat tires in a copule of days if its off by even a few degrees. Once you lower it, get it aligned for toe. You can correct camber if it makes you feel warm inside, too. It has adjustments for camber...you wont get it back to stock trim, though, but if it makes you feel better, get it as close as you can. I run neg.2.25 front and neg.2.5 rear. No inside tire wear issues, although the S2000 does have an agressive toe setting for the rear...stock...which makes your tires wear out on the inside stock as well.
Toe is your tire's enemy, but when tuned correctly can be one of the most if not THE most helpful angles when it comes to performance or driveability.
I have the skunk2 stock shock combo on my car too. It rides fine. The S2000 came with nitrogen filled performance dampers from the factory, with a rear external reservior ,so they can take a little more abuse, and are less prone to damper fade. I will be tracking the car on my setup for the first time tomorrow. I tracked the car when it was stock, so i can tell you after this weekend how the skunk setup compares. Seems to handle better on the street, however. BUT IT IS DIFFERENT. People confuse "different" for "worse" a lot, and its annoying. Adjust your driving style, and GET AN ALIGNMENT . The toe setting is very important in a sensitive beast like the S2000.

Good points, and i understand what you're trying to say. But trust me, its really not that bad on an S2000. The stock dampers have a pretty high limit as to how much crap they will take before they give up.
The car is a little over lowered....but it looks good, and if you are a good driver and can adjust your driving style, it will definitely handle better than stock. Mine does. Cuz im a superstar!! lol.

Well, just got back from the track this afternoon with the skunk2, stock shock setup. Worked out pretty damn well. Handles better than stock, BUT takes a lot more effort to keep the car behaving well. The onset of oversteer is more severe, and more unpredictable. The car half-spun on me. However, my rear tires were replaced at the stealership with NON PERFORMANCE all season peices of crap. My friend was the same suspension set up but on (rear) G-force sports on his stock wheels with stock sizes...and he did a lot better than me. He would get away from me about 4-5 car lengths or more after some consecutive turns. North track at autobahn is really really technical...so there's a lot of tossing going on. G-force sports are pretty decent good bang for the buck tire, but they're not the greatest, either.
I think that the SKUNK2, stock shock combo is really good, especially for the price.
do it.

no its the one with the most coils in the back, i think. It's the THICKER/STIFFER ones in the back. I was pretty sure that they were the ones with the most coils too.

I bought the Skunk2 springs and installed them. I like them alot but it seems like the front isnt lowered that much, anyone els notice this? The back sits a little lower then the front, right>>>?

huge debate about this on s2ki.....
More coils in the rear....trust me i had em both ways....
here is with 9 coils in the front: (front is higher than the rear....INCORRECT!)
NOW here is with more coils in the rear: Sits better, headlights are aimed correctly, not aimed up blinding other drivers etc....

i do agree that looks much better. im just telling you what the instructions said that skunk2 themselves told me. One of the only reasons im not happy with the springs is because of the difference i have in ride heighth. Do you think it makes a difference in handling when you put the more coils in the rear.
