Calling SRS airbag experts........
I need full blown PROFESSIONALS, or someone who could direct me to a PROFESSIONAL, who know the ins and outs of Hondas SRS airbag systems. I don't want people who are not sure, or who have no experience, or people who speculate.
The basic question is..........what are the electrical differences between a drivers side airbag from 1995 Civic EX coupe and a 2000-2003 Honda S2000 airbag?
If I could hypothetically install an S2000 steering wheel on my 1995 Civic EX coupe, would there be any issues with things like impedance, voltage, current, yadda yadda yadda???
I do know that both airbags are single stage and both have only a 2 wire connection.

WTF y0?
Just get an integra srs wheel and call it a day.
DC2/DB/EG have the same splines on their steering wheels.
EK/BB/AP1/AP2/DC5/EP3/FG/ZE all have the same splines as well.
In an eg you don't have many options.

That wasn't my question, so thanks for nothing.
But if you must know, the S2000 steering wheel looks a helluva lot better than the EG SRS wheel. Integra SRS wheels look no different than the EG SRS steering wheels also.
I already have a foolproof plan to to get the S2000 wheel to mount on my EG column. I just need to know the airbag electrical differences.

I really cant say if thats ever been done, putting an s2000 steering wheel in a civic.
If you were, i wouldnt be worried about the airbag at this point, id be worried about it mounting and sitting correctly. S2000 wheel wont just bolt right up, it will take some custom modifications to get it to mount right, and even then why would you be worried about the airbag, ive never ever ever heard of someone keeping an airbag device when trying to swap steering wheels. Whatever airbag system came with the car is the one that works with the car, and when you start messing around with that, theres no way of telling if it will deploy correctly or not, cause the only time it will ever do that is if you get into a fairly bad accident.
Do yourself a favor, dont bother, just get a direct aftermarket or JDM oem replacement, its not worth the risk of finding out if it works or not. If you are that worried about safety, get a roll cage, bucketseats and 4-point harnesses.

Added note: You will not pass inspection without the factory steering wheel that has airbags, and since your from cali, the cops are all over you when it comes to modifying your car, so having an aftermarket steering wheel, or one that is not stock, is just another thing for a cop to get you for. Its not worth it
Thanks for nothing? I showed you which factory steering wheels are going to bolt up into which cars.
ITR steering wheels look great!
The only factory steering wheels with airbags that will fig an eg are DB and dc2 chassis cars.
look in this thread.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1966266
Bottom line an s2k wont go into an eg unless you swap out the steering rack and console. (not worth your time)

If you are talking about the SRS Momo ITR steering wheel, I don't want it. They don't have the cruise control buttons. My EJ1 coupe is a street and daily driven show car, not a full blown race car, so I don't need a roll cage, or harness. FYI, I have been to 2 HIN shows, 2 Extreme Autofest shows, and 1 DUB show with 2 trophies so far.
There is no visual inspection in California, just smog. Since the S2000 steering wheel is an OEM piece, I'll bet that only 10% of the cops would know that it wasn't the original one. The USDM ITR and regular Integra steering wheels have very little difference in looks over the S2000 steering wheel.
Regarding the physical mounting, I already have a spare EK and EG steering column. I intend to cut the splines off both and have the EK spline professionally machined, welded, and smoothed onto the EG column so the S2000 wheel will work. I will then be able to get the horn and cruise control to also work.
I just need to know about the electrical differences between the EG and S2000 airbags and whether my EG SRS computer will electrically interface (resistance, voltage, current, etc.) with the S2000 airbag. Both airbags have a 2 wire connection. I will just have to splice the 2 wire EG SRS connector to the S2000 airbag.
Only a professional would be able to truly (100% sure) answer that question.

^^ or maybe just someone who knew a lot about srs and eg/ek conversions.
Your right, i dont think many HT ppl will know that, so your going to have to goto a honda dealer and talk with a technician, and see if there are differences in the SRS system used in OBD1 civics, versus 00-current Honda S2000's. Knowing honda, allot of stuff is interchangable and universal, so i would have to venture a guess that yes, they use the same electrical system currents and voltage. If its a show car, i woudlnt be the least bit worried about using an airbag.
That's the problem. I talked with about 15 Honda dealers in So Cal. None of them want to talk about swapping airbags for fear of giving out information about vehicle safety systems.
One of the reasons I want this wheel is because it will ADD to the show quality of the car. My whole car has hybrid stuff from the motor, tranny, interior, and suspension. It looks exactly like it could have come from the manufacturer that way.
I have a slideshow and blog about the car on myspace. Check it out. http://www.myspace.com/fukengrooven

And that would be about as worthless as **** on a bull not ragging on anyone here who is one, But in the real world most honda technicians dont know jack **** about swapability, And if you mention k20 to a honda employee they look at you like you are speaking fluent japanese. At my local Honda dealership I asked ten of the technicians what VTEC stould for and 2 could come up with the answer I highly doubt that they would be able to provide him with the capability of placing a s2ks' steering wheel into a 92-95 civic.

I am not asking about the mechanical mounting at all. I already have a plan in place to accomplish this.
Like I stated in the original question, I just need to know about the SRS electrical compatibility between my 1995 EG SRS computer and the S2000 steering wheel. That is it...............no more, no less. The techs at the dealers will not give me that info. That is why I came here...................to find some Honda guru who may know the answer.

I don't know the similarities between the 5th Gen Preludes and the Civic but I've been looking into the same thing with my Del Sol. Not in any rush due to financial situation tho.
Here's what I found. http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fifth-s2kwheel/index.shtml
I want the S2000 or 2002+ ITR steering wheels myself. Both single stage and take the same style airbags. As for the ITR not using the cruise control buttons, I have the ITR steering wheel with the back part of my RSX's original steering wheel.

I understand what the poster is going through. The point is wanting to get a specific wheel in. It's one of those "I gotta have that" sort of deals where a substitute doesn't come close. When I was talking about the ITR in my previous post, I was talking about the DC5 ITR.
The DC2 ITR steering wheel is still an outdated look in my opinion. I'm hoping my Del Sol doesn't fall into the DC2/DB/EG (which it probably does...). Well, when I have time, I'll try to see if my airbagless RSX wheel fits.

Um, that second thread is BS.
Last weekend I borrowed my friends S2k steering wheel to see if I'd like it in my car, bolted up no problem.

If you have a '96-'00 EK, then yes it will bolt right up. I have a '92-'95 EG/EJ. My steering column is different...........But I digress............ I already have a plan to physically mount it on my column.
Most here are not answering my question which is about the airbag compatibility, not whether the S2000 wheel will bolt into my EG/EJ steering column.

No your car has obd1 gen SRS, it's a 1 stage system whereas the ek and s2k airbags are a 2stage, 2 plug system.
Even if you mount an ek steering column, you'd have to rewire every aspect of your SRS system to not get an srs light with the s2k wheel.
If any part of the srs system is missing, dead, out of whack, not connetec the srs light will come on, When it's on NO airbag will be deployed in case of an accident.
So, Gl on rewiring the entire SRS system in your eg for an S2k steering wheel.

AP1 S2000 airbags (up to 03 or 04) airbags are single stage. The DC5 Integra Type R airbag is single stage. The DC5 RSX, AP2 (with exception of 04 S2K?) and EP3 Civic Si are dual stage. This I do know.
What would be so hard about it? Do airbags have a positive and negative? Or is it interchangable like a light bulb? I don't think that'll be a problem because I believe the airbag plug might fit. It does on the Prelude to my knowledge.
How will this mess up the SRS computer? If it has the right resistance, it'll detect the airbag. The concept of the detonator is simple. It's just 2 wires. Yes, it's possible to send complex data over 2 wires but think about this... The airbag only has 2 settings. Fire or not fire.
I'd definitely try this in my Del Sol if I didn't lose my DC5 ITR airbag (I think it got stolen from the back seat in my RSX while in the shop). I also do not have an EK steering column, that's why I brought it up. And this will help other people looking into this airbag swap.

The EG airbag has a 2 wire connection with a yellow plug. The S2000 airbag also has a 2 wire connection with a yellow plug. This suggests that both are single stage. When I called around to over a dozen Honda dealers, I did find out that that the S2000 airbags till the year 2005 are single stage. The wheel and airbag I have is from 2003 and is a single stage.
Regarding the connection, the plugs are different. I would have to splice on the EG plug to the S2000 airbag wires. The wires for both steering wheels are red with no positive or negative markings. So my guess is that you can put the connector on any way you want and that the signal may not be in parallel, but in series.
