Default Prelude Axle/Halfshaft

I searched for this and couldn't find the info I needed. Any help would be appreciated. Photos would be great.
I have a bad drivers side axle that needs to be replaced. I would like to avoid removing and replacing the halfshaft as well but I can't figure out how to get the two apart. It seems like one piece but I know as well as the rest of you that it isn't. How do you get them apart and do you have to remove the halfshaft in order to remove that axle?

When you say "axle", what part are you talking about. On the driver's side, there's the intermediate shaft that runs from the tranny to the front of the engine, then the CV/axle assembly plugs into that. If you're asking how to get the CV assembly off the intermediate shaft, whack it with a rubber mallet - really. It's retained by a round-section snap ring which will allow them to pop apart if you hit it.

they get stuck sometimes and are pretty hard to separate, if you dont care about the axle you can beat on it, make sure you are able to keep the intermediate shaft from moving while doing this. Also prying on it with a crowbar/tire iron or something of the sort might work also

yea im with kb58... which part are you talking about? if you are refering to seperating it from the intermediate shaft then i found that a breaker bar(as in the socket wrench) fits right in between and you can wedge it out in seconds.

Yeah, the intermediate shaft from the axle. Thanx for the help. I'll try that breaker bar thing and/or the mallet. Just wanted to make I wasn't going crazy.
