Need quick advice regarding timing belt

Default Need quick advice regarding timing belt

ok i bought a 98 ITR with only 55,000 km on it...however my friend tells me i should to the timing belt on the car before i take it to the track...he says even though its not due for another 65,000k or so i should do it now anyways because the car is almost 10 years old...

you guys thing i should do it now or wait till i hit about 110,000k or so?

If you have been 10 years on the same belt, then it is a good idea to change it.

I would change it, especially if your going to beat on it @ the track, don't forget the water pump too. I would also do a nice tune up: Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, tranny fluid change, oil change, coolant flush and fill. If you just picked it up do all of these things and you should have a pretty sound R. I do most of this stuff when I buy a used car so that I know everything has been done. Good luck and Congrats

Hmmm what about if its a 01? Ive been planning to do tranny and brake fluid, oil change, and new tires before expo. Its got 32k on her.

This is why some maintenace parts are listed as xxxx time/xxxx mileage. It's whichever comes first.

Due to the car being 10 years old, and your want to track the car, I'd give her a decent tune up as mentioned. T-Belt, WP, Air and Fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor and check everything else. You'll be glad you did.

How much would it suck to have your car 500 km from home only to have something stupid happen and ruin your track weekend.

anytime your unsure of a preventive repair just do it.. esp with used cars where u dont know what was done when
