POLL! To Swap or not to Swap? AT to MT
I have a 94 Lx that hit a tree at 45 mph. Fortunately for me the only real damage was to the subframe and the exterior front of the car. I pulled the motor and used it in my DD but now I'm left with a spare car in my garage.
One of my lifelong passions and goals is to build a drag car. Since there aren't many Accords out there that are full on drag cars, I'd love to be one of the only. (Not trying to be the first, I just love this sport)
The car was an automatic but if I was to build a drag Accord I would definitely want it to be a 5 sp.
Here's my question:
Should I spend the time, money and effort in making this a 5 speed, or should I look for a different platform?
Money is a factor, (Like most people, I don't have enough) this is not going to be an overnight project. I suspect it will take years to complete, but I don't want to get halfway through it and realize I should have gone another route.
Which route would be more cost effective?
NOTE:
I'm looking for those who have done this before, not a friends of a friend. If you know somebody who has done the swap, send this to them and have them respond with their experience.
Thanks
C

I don't think people who build an Accord drag car are doing it to be cost effective, I think they are doing it because of their love for the Accord.
If you like the Accord then stay with it. If you aren't so sure, then maybe look for something thats lighter and has more aftermarket support.

why isn't this a poll choice?
IMO the accord has a lot against it for a drag car if you want to be serious and competitive. lots of weight, FWD, and limited aftermarket support.
if you just want a project for weekend wrenching go for it!

Yeah more for weekend racing. I have a goal for the car not trying to enter competitions for the sake of being the fastest Accord ever.

I don't think I could have said that better myself. There's so many Civic's and Integra's out there but not nearly as many Accords. I envision this being something that I work on with my son as he grows up. Just he and I working out in the garage and going to the track. I can see it as a full drag car like those old school station wagons with big block Hemi motors.
Eventually showing the younger generation how we started and how much fun it can be. Sorry for the rant. Post your thoughts.
