Need tire help...
ok so I need some new tires on a set of 15x6.5 wheels(racing hart cp035s for those who want to know).I really want the 195/50/15 size so it won't screw with the speedo as much as a 205/50.
I currently have the kumho 711s, and I think they are ok, but not great....but hey, I got hooked up on them for 140 mounted/balanced
so anyways....My budget is around 300 mounted/balanced for the set.I'm looking for tires that have very good dry traction and decent wet traction.
Here's what I'm considering:
-General exlaim uhp
-Falken ziex
-Kumho ast
-Kumho spt
-Nitto 450
-Toyo proxes 4
-Toyo t1s
-Yokohama es100
I've only been able to find info on here about the es100s and spts for the most part....and I don't know how realistic the tirerack grading system is

I am so glad you are getting ride of those 711 pieces of crap! I don't see how you think they are ok but I will not argue as you are getting ride of them!
Now as for your selections
-General exlaim uhp= piece of crap
-Falken ziex= another piece of crap
-Kumho ast= Do you really need an all season tire?
-Kumho spt= The best tire out of the bunch
-Nitto 450= From what I have heard they are ok
-Toyo proxes 4= Do you really need an all season tire?
-Toyo t1s= very good tire but overpriced
-Yokohama es100= probably your 2nd best tire out of the bunch
Also I am glad I don't have to beat it threw your head to get the 195-50-15 for your car instead of the 205. I see you did a little reading before posting!

falken ziex are cheap and propley best wet traction and most likly the cheapest.
the kumhos are better dry traction but also good for the price
and the es100 are good but not good dry and also wear out quick.
the toyos, nitto and general suck.

I assume from your location that you are not planning to use these tires in snow or frigid cold. In that case, there is absolutely no need for you to consider all-season tires. Good summer tires, even inexpensive ones, nearly always offer better performance than all-season tires in the moderate to warm temperatures you have year round. The only advantage of all-seasons is that they are better than summer tires in snow and frigid cold, which you don't have to worry about.

You are going to love your new tires, because the best of these are much, much, MUCH better than the 711.

As noted above, all-season tires offer much worse performance than summer tires, except on snow. So you can immediately eliminate all of the all-season tires from consideration. Knock out the Falken Ziex, Kumho AST, Nitto NT450, and Toyo Proxes 4.
The Toyo T1-S has been discontinued, and I would not recommend it for that reason. (Even if you can buy a set now, let's say you hit a pothole and destroy one; you might not be able to get a matching tire to replace it.) It has been replaced in the Toyo line by the T1-R, whose price is above your budget.
That leaves three summer tires. In terms of performance, I would rank them as follows:
Kumho SPT ($58)
Yokohama ES100 ($52)
General Exclaim UHP ($55)
I would buy the Kumho SPT. But the ES100 isn't a bad choice either, considering that yours is one of the few sizes in which the ES100 is less expensive than the SPT (which is better than the ES100).

Wrong. The Falken Ziex has far worse wet traction than any of the summer tires. It's a crappy all-season tire.

Wrong and wrong. The ES100 has the second best dry traction of this group. I got over 40K miles to the last set I used on the GS-R, which is more than any other tire I have used on that car.

Wrong, right, and sort of wrong. The Toyo wasn't bad, but it's discontinued. The Nitto isn't great. The General isn't terrible, but it's not as good as the SPT or the ES100.

cool thanks guys. the only way I'd go with a 205/50 is if I got a "real" performance tire such as the azenis, but they all seem to be out of my budget.
as for wet weather, I'm not too worried about that but in so cal it does get an occasional 2-3 day rain blast in the up coming months so it is sort of in the back of my mind.
sounds like the SPT is the one for me. Unless of course, anyone has aditional suggestions. Thanks again.

Also don't forget alignements plays a big part in how long a tire lasts. My dad had the es100 and they lasted 35000km and his car was always perfectly aligned. He would go 3 times a year!

asked nsxtacy this but figured some more opinions couldn't hurt:
Taking out the fact that the toyo T1S is discontinued, is it a better tire than the kumho SPT?
again I'm mainly only interested in dry traction, but wet traction can sometimes become something I need to watch out for
