Default Welding 304 with NiRod44

Is there any reason why I shouldn't weld 304l using NiRod44 filler rod?

lol, typical h-t answer, but that is true. I mean from a metallurgical standpoint, money aside.

Because it isn't the right rod for 304 stainless?

Just because you dont get the answer you want to hear, you dont have to start calling people "useless *****", you havent exactly contributed to this thread that much either.

As for your Nirod 44 filler, its meant for cast iron, not stainless. So probably you'll fail with it.

It's not a good match at all.
There is a ton of nickel, 44% as noted in the name. 304 is much less, depending on exact spec 1/4 or less.
The nirod 44 also has 45% iron, terrible for the application.
The filler also has very little chromium, a staple in the 300 series stainless
for corrosion properties etc.
The maganese content is far too high in the filler also.
Just use 308, it's cheaper and better.

Yep, agreed. Original design of the filler rod.
Not that it can't be done, I've seen turbo manifolds made of fence tubing...
