Carbon fiber hood problem?
I just bought a hatch that is absolutely flawless, except for the carbon fiber hood, that has some age damage. The clear coat has kinda bubbled and become rough looking. There is one spot where the previous owner sanded down the clear coat to just the actual carbon fiber, and then buffed it out with some type of compound(say like Meguires Scratch X). The spot where he did it looks good. My question is whether or not this is a good idea? I don't have money to buy a new carbon fiber hood, and the color is a custom color so it would cost me a lot to get an oem hood painted to match. Any imput? Thanks!
Aight sounds good. I'm up to any suggestions because I don't really know what else to do, not to mention that ALMOST anything would look better than it's current condition. Thanks man.
i was kinda thinking that, but i need to get it recleared after i take the old clear off and buff it out right? another thing, just wondering, around how much you think it would be to reclear it?
If the clear is flaking off then It has to be sanded off. If the clear is adhering fine its OK to paint over. The cost could range quite a bit depending on who does it. If you found someone on the side to bring just the hood to, prepped the way they want it and used a cheaper clear that would be on the low cost end.
