ok guys. i have a 97 gsr. and everytime i turn on the car the idle will dip to about 500 then back up to about 700-800. everytime it dips, the car hesitates but still runs fine. when i drive it and i hit a stop light i throw it in neutral and it dips down to 500 and raises again. what can it be? i just had a full tune up about a month ago. thanks in advanced guys!

A dirty IACV is a common problem.

 

hey i got the same problem,,, i clean out my IACV and even swapped a new one in but it still does the same thing any have any suggestions????

 

Have you set the base idle?

You warm the engine, turn off all accessories, disconnect the IACV, and adjust the idle screw on the throttle body to 500 +-50 RPM. You then shut off the engine, reset the ECU (it will havbe an IACV code stored), reconnect the IACV, and restart. The car should idle at 750 +-50 RPM.

Note: I am pulling the RPM numbers from memory. Double check the Helm manual.
