Scratching 2nd, 3rd gears
Believe this is a common issue with R's from what I have read and from experience with an old and new transmission. Befuddles me because my 88 Civic and 97 GSR never had such a problem. But the R and S do - suspect it has something to do with low engine inertia dropping revs during shifts... I only have the problem when leisurely shifting on the street.
In any event, some folks have suggested using alternative oils to Honda MTF etc - something I would not recommend. Not sure if this has been offered up, but 2 other solutions are to slightly drag the gas pedal after pushing clutch and increasing shift lever speed. A slight change in driving style can quickly eliminate this problem. Now if your problem is worn syncros, that's another issue.
