Default Thermostat... Lower or OEM?

Sup guys, I used the search item, but i want some responses. I live in southern cali. Temps are not cold or hot here. Kinda warm. So when my oem thermostat is rated at 180. If I want to lower it to 170, will it mess up my emissions; CAT? I heard somewhere that hotter is better because more fuel will combust. Is this true? What if I replace my thermostat with a 170. Will it screw it up. And what's a good brand of thermostat too? Thanks guys.

Just keep the OEM. You'll be hard prest to find any thing better. Plus it would be pointles.
