Maintaining factory Guarantee with modifications
I'm getting my Si in two weeks by lease. I'm planning to put some modifications in my new Si, but will that affect the guarantee for the car? I'm planning to get to FTP body kit, new exhaust and intake, and possibly rims in the future. What are the specific requirements that I must adhere to in order to maintain the guarantee while adding some modifications?
You lose warranty on the modified parts and parts associated to that part. Everything else is still under warranty as normal.
Untrue, only if they can prove the modification is what caused the malfunction (M&M act). The warranty is seperated into categories as well. Meaning the electrical warranty can be voided, but your drivetrain warranty will remain intact.

By what you guys are saying, I'm assuming that the "cosmetic" changes aren't that much affected by warranty. As for the performance part, if I replace the intake manifold, my warranty for the intake is void, or does it also extend to the engine?

Yeah basically. You pay a little less monthly, but you have to return it at the end of the contract unless you pay an ungodly amount of money as a final payment to keep it.

Leasing is just a way to get a cheaper starting rate, then you can buy it at the end.
If you are low on cash and just want the car to drive for that time, its actually a pretty smart way to get into the car you really want.

it states on Hondata.com that there are federal laws against manufacturers voiding warranties simply for the presence of aftermarket or modified parts. They have to PROVE that whatever you did is what's causing the problem
But:

I am leasing to buy. I can't afford to pay the full 21 upfront. I'm gonna be making monthly payments around $400 a month.

Paying to mod a car you can't pay for...brilliant! Thats why they make the LX.

They can charge you for excess wear and tear. If you return a moded car they will probably rape you.

First off if you are leasing it, you probably shouldn't put any mods on it until your lease is up and you buy it. I'm pretty sure the dealership will not want you making any modifications to the car. You could probably throw some new wheels on it...and that's it. Like Ed said above, they will rape you.

Wait, your lease payments are gonna be $400/month? That's damn near what it costs to buy one. I was gonna be paying $393/month to buy, or $286/month to lease.

I actually think modding a leased vehicle is in direct violation of the lease agreement you sign. The whole point of a lease is that you don't own the car, it's not yours.

I think there has been a handfull of people to buy their cars cash up front. Most of us got loans from credit unions or American Honda Fincance and therefore OWN the car even though we still pay towards the loan value every month.
A lease is like renting to own. so, you'll be paying 400 a month for three years on a car you don't own and still have to get a loan to pay for buying the vehicle when the lease is up

So you're financing?
In that case, its ok to mod... but if I were you I'd try and find some better rates. $400/mo... eek

He might have traded in a car he owed on more than what it was worth. Thats why my payments are high on the new Speed3 I just bought. But my Si was paid in cash so I still only have 1 car payment.
i was gonna lease my car at first u can mod if u want as long as you intend on keeping the car. with a lease u pay less monthly after your 3 year contract with the lease the car would devalue by half of original cost at which time u can then just finance and pay even less then with the lease. if u dont intend on keeping the car u dont have to put the original parts back on ull just get charged a **** load of money for having put them on in the first place
