Default white gunk in alternator connector?

i was poking around my engine bay today and decided to take off the alternator plug to see if everything was kosher w/ it b/c I am having some idle issues when there is a load on the electrical system of any sort.

when i took it off i noticed that the plug, and the connector was coated in white gunk/goop.

my question to you guys is that dialectic grease? or its it just gunk that doesn't belong.

thanks.
