H22 3rd gen Prelude or???
All this started because I wanted to make my 4th gen a bit faster... I added up the cost of all the things I would want to get done (LSD, cams, intake manifold, just to name a few) and I came to a conclusion that I'd be better off just getting a complete euroR motor. I'll end up spending about the same amount of money, pretty much same power gains, except I'd be getting a better gearbox with the euroR. Plus, I'll have an H22A1 left over to use for my new project.
Also, I really want to get another car for daily use as I drive a lot and I really want to save this Prelude from that. So, I'll probably buy a beater. But I don't want just any beater, so I'm planning on getting a 3rd gen Prelude, taking the H22A1 out of my 4th gen and dropping it in there. It wouldn't be that much more expensive than doing the same swap on a civic since there is a mount kit now available for 3rd gens. This would make a perfect daily driver/weekend racer/sleeper.
I know the civic would be faster because it's lighter, but I really miss driving a 3rd gen Prelude (had one) and they are cheaper too.
What would you guys do?
Keep in mind that I want to keep the cost down. Most hatchbacks are overpriced, whereas I can find an 88 to 91 Prelude with a decent body for about $1500 or less.
I'm also open to other ideas...

drop the oem in the 3rd gen. that would be badass.
my friend had a third gen with a blown motor, but lives in slc now, and his mom's trying to sell it for 2k... a little ridiculous if you ask me...
but it does have a vipir alarm, cust. guages, cust door trim, cust. seats bodykit, wing, purple underglow.... it was either a showcar, or a hardcore ricer before he bought it.

Uhh....the 3g lude thing will be quite the project if I'm not mistaken....it would be a lot easier to put it in a civic, then again, everyone has a civic....
If it was me I'd probably just build my current engine, but that doesn't leave room for the second car, you may come out with a slightly faster car but yeah, no DD.
Its a tossup

do it in the 3rd gen lude. (period) that car would go awsome, and it would still be a fu*kin prelude! slap a vtec symbol on back and away ya gooooooooooo

Yeah, I had a 95 hatchback with a B18C ITR. It was a fun can, but just too damn uncomfortable for me. Road noise, bouncing, roll-up windows, cheap seats, cheap gauges, cheap suspension, cheap brakes, cheap almost everything. After spending some decent money, I did my math realized that it would cost me just too much to get it the way I really want it. Sold it, bought a Prelude and had money left over. After a few bolt-ons, my Prelude is just as fast as the civic was, and it handles better. Plus, I got more attention from the boys in blue in the civic.
Here are some pics of my EG

if your on Preludepower.com at all you know how hard the h22 swap is for the 3rd gen...
its not just bolt it in and go... theres a lot of different parts needed...including the wiring harness which is quite the bitch..
Im doign the swap later this summer or this comming winter... and im just sending the harness out to the compay that offers it to have them setup my wiring harness.
g/l with w/e you do...
go for the 3rd gen h22's if you like the challenege...
if you want something asap.....then drop it into a civic or rebuild it for the 4th gen.

Yes, I'm aware of that.

Sportier and lighter than Accords is what I meant. I'm not after the lightest possible body.

From my experience with a few JDM H22 motors and the Euro R...
A JDM H22 can have the same power potential as the Euro R...Euro R be for someone going for that unique factor with deep wallets...other then that it's pointless to spend the extra $2k for the swap. Spend half that and put it back into the JDM H22.

Well, I wouldn't really agree there... I have an H22A1 now. I want to get a better intake manifold, i want new pistons, cams, LSD... And the list goes on and on...
That $2000 extra for the euroR will get me all that AND better gearing. Not a bad deal in my book. If my goal was to build an NA monster H22, then it would be a different story.
But that's not what I'm after, nor am I after "that unique factor with deep wallets". It just seems to be the best option for me and my goals. Another plus is also the OEM reliability as the motor will be left untouched. The only other things I would do are an RMF or SMSP header and tuning. Done.
So the euroR is pretty much perfect for what I want. I could care less about the bling factor and bragging rights.
