Tach no working
hey i have problems with my dash tach. it never works. when it decides to, its always 1000rpm off. EXACTLY 1000rmp off. is my needle busted or something? because i really want it to work. my aftermarket one works but the dash one doesnt. thanks for the help

what was wrong with yours when it did that? was it 1000rpm off and didnt work sometimes?

HAHAHAHA NOooooooooooooooo, those things r fugly. the stock dash on preludes is the bomb.
yeah id tend to agree with the above. if its working partially, chances are its getting power occasionally, and is in working order (chances of them failing are very very unlikely, so chances are its the power wire, ground, or the signal wire going to your meter

uh, no **** sherlock. Here's some actual info: The whole cluster uses the same power and ground, so that isn't it, or the whole thing would be fucked. Its the signal wire.
I hate to be an *** to you, but I really hate it when people make up information and post it like its true.

yeah dude

ive been doin alot of tach research to fix mine. the tach circuit is grounded right under your CEL test pug, to the left of the shift cables. It ground 403.

its shows alot of great info on how to test ur tach circuit.

is right there...either that or go to a honda dealer and they can give you a print out.

lol im 15 years old and im kinda havin problems with the diagram. does anyone have any pics that they can show me? im tryin to follow the wires but aint finding anything thatnks i appreciate the help
actually i highly doubt you wern't trying to sound like an ***, because frankly u are
and btw, the tachs themself very rarely fail. its wiring usually the problem, not the actualy unit cup cake. they are usually designed for life of car. so if 1 fails per life of 200-300 thousand km's life expectancy means they fail alot, than your expecting way too much. if you never have to replace the tach in your car (which i've never had in all my preludes (which is 3 generations over 8 years) ,than doesn't that mean that they don't really fail that often?) odometer sticks once and a while but the unit itself is solid

ya im sorry for all the troubles i jus took apart the whole dash today but there was only one problem. i didnt know what i was lookin for lol. when i friest start the car, the tach works but its exactly 1000rpm off and after a min or so its jus way off all the time
keep looking. like matt was saying, they share the same power and grounds but have different signal wires. if you look at the wiring going to the guages compare the coloring from guage to guage. grounds and powers will have the same base colors on the wiring and the signal wire should be different all together. then you'll have to trace that and see why its getting interupted. or you can use a multimeter after you pull some wire back and find the constant source and the signal.
do you know which wires are going to your tach? is it 2 or 3 wire? start with that. i dont have a fourth gen, so i dont know if all the wiring would be the same.
it could still just be a ground too man...

and i always loved the one onn the dash and would really like to get it workin again
