Default ipod installation

CIVIC 03 (2 dr)

purchased an ipod adapter for the car
(go to http://www.circuitcity.com ...search for ipod metra.. then find the honda version)

looks as if all i have to do is plug in the adapter in the rear of the radio??

anyway, trying to save a few $$$$ by doing it myself...

can this be installed by taking out the glove compartment?

if not, then how do i uninstall the radio??

it seems that it hooks up like a satellite radio or cd changer....

thanks in advance for any and all consideration to my dilema

ok i did some internet searching and found this....

http://www.rightclick.com.au/brad/ipodmycar.html

maybe it will work... I'll try to be really careful not to make scratch marks all over the car like the author of the link did.

but the link is of a 05 civic.. i hope it's the same

notice in pic 1 that there is a small plastic ring missing around the gear shift...
use flat head screwdriver to remove.. it's only secured with clips

********************************************

now the bigger ring around the gear shift is removed.. (use screwdriver) only secured with clips

********************************************

look to the left and right of the gear shift.. you see those 2 screws?? remove the screws

********************************************

now the piece that is connected to the lighter can be removed (after removing the 2 screws it's only secured with clips).. do not pull too hard or you'll damaged the wires to the lighter

After all this is done... i did the impossible - with my left hand i reached up behind the radio (to the far right) to feel for the hole to put the ipod adapter in

remember that if you already have siruis radio or cd changer or anything that is already occupying the hole it MUST be removed... (1 downfall of installing this brand of ipod car adapter)

after you get a bearing for where the hole is that you looking to insert the ipod cable... clinch the wires with 2 finders and try (took me 45 minutes) to insert the plug in the slot (clip side up)

********************************************
END RESULT

this looks so unprofessional..

the kit came with some sort of ipod holder that clips to an air vent.. but it's soooo CHEAP.. i had to fight to get the ipod in the clip.. and on top of that the wires from the ipod adapter to the ipod would be hanging all over the place..

if anyone knows of a NEATER more professional looking way to do this.. please reply... THANKS

oh and yes, after viewing the pics i posted (yuck!) i vacuumed and shampoo'd the inside of the car..
