2001 ITR for sale, immaculate condition, $12k accident - to buy or not to buy?
so I checked out a 2001 Integra Type R, only 45,000km on it. it's championship white in colour, and the body and engine are in amazing condition, looks brand new. it's selling for $20,000 CDN but it had an accident which cost $12,000 in repairs. I don't know how this will affect the car's performance AFTER being repaired, so please enlighten me people. what risks would I be taking if I bought this car?
is there any structural damage? cars that have been in a accident are always a risk. you get what you pay for.
btw 2001 in white?

kind of confusing but immaculate after an accident..
a pun don't you think?
but anyways, if you're interested take it to a mechanic and get it checked out and see what kind of damages were on it before. 12k damages is alot. see what the damages were.

12k is an expensive repair bill taking into consideration that these cars are valued 15-20k~. Insurance companies are known to total a vehicle if the repair costs are 50% of the vehicles total value.
Are you able to get any details on the accident?
If I were to spend 20K on an ITR it better be mint and free of accidents.

Bingo. I agree it's stupied. It's not worth it.

Usually it is more like 75% of the fair market value. Definitely not as low as 50% I have totalled three cars in the past 10 years, 2 because of deer and one UPS truck that did not want to stop at his red light. The third accident was on a different company as I got dropped after two frequnecys of collisions even though it was not my fault that a couple bucks decided to grace the highways presence. But anyway the always say 75% is the cutoff.

keep in mind thats canadian money. If the motor had to be replaced (assuming front end damage) then it wouldn't take much body damage to get it up to that much at all.
I still stay away from damaged cars as best I can

This is a no brainer. Do not waste your time or money! I don't care how minty it looks on the outside. Even $12k Canadian is a hell of a lot of damages. I would continue looking elsewhere.
$12,000 repair for a car is pretty much totalled. i would just walk on to the next car, if i were you. i bought my 2001 ITR for only $7000 turbocharged with an LSvtec fully built bottom up. and i also have the itr block from the car too. and the car is in good condition as any car on a dealer's lot. its only got 43,000miles on it. good deal, you think? i know you can find one better than the one you looking at.
12k might sound like a lot, but really those front end parts add up really quickly.
ie. air bags and control unit=2500, headlights-600, front bumper and quarter panels, hood, paint=3000. rad, ac condensor and related ac parts-2000, labour 3000. all depends really where it got hit. a straight on hit imo would be the best.

That's way uncommonly cheap. For him to wait for a similar deal, well...he'd be waiting a long time.

i had 2000 ITR i had the accident in 01 w/ 28k on it
this car had $12,000 in damage & the ins fixed it, i later sold it in 05 for $16,000 w/ 41k on it. $20,000 is a bit on the high side for that much damage.

Personally, I wouldn't want to have a caR that was wrecked or even in a minor accident unless it was dirt cheap. You'll find more and more stuff wrong and if you're picky like most of us are, you'll think you're hearing things that may have been attributed to the carnage...
