Default mixed feelings.....

Guys...needs some input here as i know some of you guys has gone through the same stage as i have.

The R came out of winter storage this weekend and i took it out for a rip. Normally, i will be really happy and excited about this but this year, i found that the suspension is stiff, the car is loud, the clutch is hard....feels like a work out to drive the car. This is because all these things were modded (BC RS dampers, exhaust, Exedy stage 1). Maybe i am getting older? But the car is still relatively fast, very responsive, great in the corners, loads of fun to drive when "driven" and i am still very much in love with the car.

I have just purchased a new home that has no garage. I have this summer to drive the R but after that, it will be garaged at my parent's place until i get another home with a garage (tentatively, 3 years). For many reasons, i have been toying with the idea of selling the R.

There is a part of me that really wants to keep the car, solely because i have wanted one for so long and i am still very much in love with it. Further more, i will never find another R in this condition if i sold mine now. But there is also another part of me that tells me that i should sell it. The car in the current state is already a bit "raw" for me, don't know how it will be like in 3 years. I do not see myself visiting the track as often, if at all, in the coming years. Also, the extra money, though i don't really need it, will help out with my new place. I can always buy something like a S2K later down the road.

So what would/did you guys do? I am sure some of you have faced the same situation. Sorry for the long post and please, keep the smart comments to yourself. Thanks for reading.

Try putting the suspension and exhaust back to stock. It will feel much more driver friendly then you can really decide if you want to sell it or not.

Returning the car back to stock is not really a option. I bought the car without the stock parts hence locating stock suspension and exhaust system is kind of hard. Especially seeing that these cars are somewhat rare here.

1. Sell your suspension, buy something MUCH less stiff, something as stiff as OEM.

2. Get rid of the exhaust, get a Tanabe Touring Medallion, I think that is the really quiet one and install an OEM clutch.

Car is liveable again

LOL......don't want to go into details.....but the house wasn't really planned. If i had it my way, there will be a garage for sure!

Maybe i will start with a quieter exhaust first then decide.

i get the same at times

start thinking about maybe replacing it with something else

then i realise it would cost a fortune to have something else

then i go and drive it, have an absolute blast and know that i would regret it so much if i ever sold it

Your car sounds like mine was when I bought it... Way too loud exhaust, a ride that was way to low and harsh, an impossible to slip clutch, and generally a little too raw. Through many great hookups here, I've returned it to stock. Stock suspension, new muffler, new oem clutch etc. The car is still tons of fun and WAY more liveable as my daily driver.

build a garage? maybe...

I am in the same situation. Recently married, have a home, have a DD, no real need for the R. It would be a cool $15-19K in my pockets if I sold it. I dont drive it very often. (maybe 1500miles/year) I say Im going to sell it all the time but I never bring my self to do it. I guess the sentimental value is worth more then what I would get for it. Plus the 2-5 track days a year I do get to go out I fall right back in love with it.

Keep the R!

Alright guys......anyone know if there is a quiet system out there that is JDM length? I am currently running a JDM 4-1 + JDM CAT hence i need JDM length.

Also, any quiet axle backs that will bolt on to a Spoon B-pipe?

I see you have an EL so that is basically your daily. Also, it appears that you have a safe place to store your R at your parents house. Given these two statements, I would:

1. Consider the R as my toy and just keep the mods as is and in actuality maybe even mod it some more for track driving.
2. Drive my daily or trade my daily in for a Ridgeline so that when my R gets modded more, I can tow it to driving events.

Yep, got to tell you.....nothing better then a virgin stock itr.

You will be suprised at how much you can love a stock R....... mods are kool if you are into show offs and track days......but for a back mountain roads car the stock itr is the best ....

x2. The older I get the more I feel that way. Lose the stiff suspension and loud exhaust and it will seem like a different car.

Thanks for everyone's input on this. I think i am leaning towards keeping the car. I have driven it more for the past couple of days and i am in love with it again. I think i was spoiled by my DD (1.7 EL) hence i am thinking the car being rough. Anyhow, i will start with a quieter exhaust first.

Thanks!

glad to hear you're leaning towards keeping her

if for any reason in switching to a quieter exhaust, you have to swap-out your Spoon B-pipe and get rid of it, i will gladly take it off of your hands just let me know...
