Have a question about lowering.
I am about to get a 05 S2000. I really want to lower the car alittle. I will be lowering it with Elipser springs. I have heard good things about them and there really dont drop the car much, maybe 1.5 inch or 1 inch. I was wondering if i could use my stock shocks with these springs ? I use to have a integra type R and it was lowered with H&R springs with stock shocks and it was fine. Will s2000 shocks hold up ? I am getting springs since this will be a DD and not tracked. So i dont want to get coilovers.
forgot to add the shocks are fairly new .. since the car has only 6300 miles on it.

get swift springs instead.. its better if you get lowering spring that has even drop both front and rear.. that would keep your 50/50 balance...

yea i have heard really good things from Swift also. Is that a safe spring to use on OEM shocks ? Something that wont trash the shocks. How much does the swift springs drop the car? does anyone know where the best deal is in buying these springs ?

with a stiffer spring, i think it would last longer compare to softer one sense its not bounching like a race horse.. correct me if im wrong...
get the spring rates that suit better for your application.. i dont know how much the drop..
now you do your job and search who has it and find out

it's couple hundred lb stiffer than stock spring, it's around 400ish if i recalled.
i wouldn't pair those up with stock damper, simple knowing it's a big mismatch.
eibach is only 60 lbs heavier, stech is around 90lb-100 heavier.

mismatched damper rate vs spring rate? hell no.
one inch in s2k is alot, the car is already very low to begin with, you can slam an accord 4 inch and still have finger gap, that's an accord

i was reading on s2ki.com and i see they say swift springs are really good and leave less then 2 fingers from the fender and the tire. They say it isnt that bad to lower it on stock shocks if they are new so i douno. How much do you think KYB shocks will run. Is that a good match up with those springs ?
just do it right the first time...
if you gonna spend around $300 for the swift spring and around $600 for the strut, might as well get a coilover kit.. im sure you can find one less than $1000.. they might not be the best one but at least it would last longer and spring + strut.. unless your getting koni..

i just installed some swift springs on my friends 02 s2000 yesterday.
front dropped more than the rear. about 1" front and .5" rear. (dont quote me directly, i have a fuzzy memory). he was happy with the fronts drop, but the rears didnt seem to drop as much oddly enough. overall he's still pretty happy. i mean, he got them at the spugen raffle...
these are on stock shocks. i didnt think the ride was any stiffer than stock quite frankly. the front springs were a bit shorter, but the rears were nearly the same height. so im not surprised the rears didnt drop as much.
btw, i loaded the bushings properly before torqueing them.
as far as i know, the only aftermarket shock available are konis for the s2000. no tokico or kyb. stock s2000 shocks are pretty damn fit, i wouldnt under rate them for a mild aftermarket spring.

what do you mean by "load the bushings"
my teins didnt sit all that nicely. could this be the reason?
my drivers side is a finger higher than my passengers side. im confused as hell.

very much so. read your helms manual.

you have to do it on all bushings when you change ride heights. bushings contribute to spring rate and if you tighten them out of range, you destroy them. this is the reason why ppl say "springs settle", no its your bushings tearing. and is why lowered suspension are known to wear out bushings. install them right, theyll last much longer.

^^ to add to that.. the reason being if you just tighten it right away, the bolt with hold the bushing and once you put it in the ground, the bushing wouldnt able to slide and sit properly...
then the bushing/rubber is twisting and it will eventually fail..

You should be fine using Stock shocks on those Espelir springs. S2000s have pretty good travel stock. I've got Skunk2 springs (lowered 2.25'' in the front and 1.85'' in the back) and my shocks are fine. The car doesnt bumpstop even on pretty harsh bumps, and it handles great.

get the spring rates that suit better for your application.. i dont know how much the drop..

A stiffer spring will usually make stock dampers bounce more, as they cannot handle the frequency of the spring. This is how i explained it in the integra forum:
Springs only sorta cause the bouncing. Shocks that either cant handle the spring rate or shocks that suck or are malfunctioning in some way or set up wrong make the car bounce.
The shock (damper) is what damps frequencies produced by the spring. If it cant do that, then it cant do its job...it is the shock that is the weak link. The spring can, however, make it difficult for the shock to do it's job. Think of it this way:
Your job is to do paperwork for a doctor's office.
The doctor is a 50 year old lady that looks like your mom or something. She walks by you all the time, and says hi..but you can still do your job perfectly fine.
Then one day, Carmen Electra walks past you nude. You couldnt do your job.
Sure, it was Carmen that made you not be able to do your job (Carmen is the spring), but you're the one that couldnt do it (you're the shock). Had there been a gay guy there, he would have done the job no problem (he is a better valved shock for the situation).
Damper fade and failure is caused by putting the damper out of its optimum range by over lowering (which im sure will happen to mine with my 2.25'' drop sooner or later), by bottoming the shock out, or by overheating it by some other means. Also, putting a spring with too much frequency output will wear the shocks out prematurely.
To the OP: Your OEM shocks are much higher quality than most cheap replacements like KYB or Tokico. The rears even have stock external reserviors. If you're looking for a spring/shock combo, you're probably going to spend some money. Coilovers can be overkill as most people dont know how to set them up. Low quality coilovers can also cause more problems than they solve.
And yes, please for the love of god preload your bushings before you put the car down.

wow...read the rest of it. My example isnt useless because you're of lower intelligence. You said stiffer springs would make it bounce less. I said stiffer springs would make it bounce more. I explained why and how and then I even gave you an example. The OP still had questions after someone said the springs only drop the car a 1.5''. So i answered his questions by telling him why shocks fail. You done now, ox?
