You guys are so irresposible for installing HID's into halogen housings without fabricating an appropriate glare shield. That is some crazy glare coming from both vehicles. I would not want to be driving in front of either of you at night.

I see some fix it tickets in your futures

Cliff notes:HID bulbs are not plug and play into halogen reflector headlight housings You need to retro a projector assembly, or custom make a glare shield

ummm hey we do have glare shields.... it's a metal "cap" thats only covering the bottom half of the bulb so it don't hit the hi beam reflector... and yes.. they are "retro" fitted.... how many hid's have u been through? this is my 4th setup... and i know that mine don't blind people.. the pictures are set for LONG exposure time so that the glare is more obvious and the color is brighter... and i had the camera take a picture in the headlights BEAM so that it has glare.. when u just stand up it doesn't have much glare... i've had hid's in my car doing it MY way for like 8 months or so.. and i've turned them on in front of cops.. behind cops.. next to cops.. and even TRY to get a ticket and i haven't even gotten a ticket OR a stock *knock on wood*... i've only been hi-beamed from on coming traffic about 3 times in 8 months.... i always park the car along the side of a street and make sure it dont blind the before AHEAD of it... and then after i aim them low enoough.. i even them out against a wall.. then i drive around and see where the beam hits.. and fine tune it again... i've done that everytime.. trust me... the beam is where it's supposed to be

hmmm yup I'm definitely going to get 4300K, I can tell there is more light hitting the ground from the 4300K setup than from the 6000K.

I'm no HID expert, but isn't the glare shield what differentiates a low-beam HID bulb from a high-beam (low has it, high does not)??

Well, the glare from the headlights isn't as bad as some of the pictures make them out to be. I too have driven behind, by, and in front of a number of cops. I've never had a problem with them before. If you guys couldn't tell, the 4300k HIDs are shining out of 99 Civic Headlights. I really love the light output, especially on unlit streets...it makes a world of difference. Like they say, once you go HID, you can't ever go back.

they look good if u own them, but persoanllly i hate them.
even if they are correctly placed in or what not, they blind the ish out of me.
those damn lexus's and other top end luxury cars, expecially the trucks when they are behind you, they just reflect off my mirrors right into my eyes.

i like my foggy, yellowish headlights,. hehe

hurts my eyes just looking at those pics
turn your monitor brightness down

The only time my headlights (stock or HID) would shine in other people's eyes if I'm coming over a hill. Everytime I see HID coming toward me, I think how cool it looks and want to get a set for my car. In time, in time....

Very neat pics guys. At first I was afraid my HID kit was going to look too much like the stock color, but I was wrong. My favorite part about my HID's is turning them on at night and watching them change colors for the first 30 seconds or so. They go from a bluish purple to a bluish white. Very bright...I'll never go back to halogens.

ebelp : That is my favorite thing about nighttime driving as well, that initial startup flicker where it changes colors...people are just awed by it, it's insane!

As for pics of joeys CR-V : https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=179660

There are more, he could probably provide them better than i could.

Well I have had mine for about a 14 months now. I have only had one set because I did it right the first time.
Here is a pic of my car after the HID has warmed up

My beam pattern (Note the sharp cutoff so no stray light goes above to blind on coming drivers)

and finally, the light from my head lights on a foggy night, as you can see, the light goes down to the road

and i had the camera take a picture in the headlights BEAM so that it has glare.. when u just stand up it doesn't have much glare... i've had hid's in my car doing it MY way for like 8 months or so.. and i've turned them on in front of cops.. behind cops.. next to cops.. and even TRY to get a ticket and i haven't even gotten a ticket OR a stock *knock on wood*... i've only been hi-beamed from on coming traffic about 3 times in 8 months.... i always park the car along the side of a street and make sure it dont blind the before AHEAD of it... and then after i aim them low enoough.. i even them out against a wall.. then i drive around and see where the beam hits.. and fine tune it again... i've done that everytime.. trust me... the beam is where it's supposed to be
The glare shield is not to prevent the light from hitting the high beam reflectors, but to prevent light from escaping vertically and blinding drivers. From your pics, I can tell that you have glare, I suggest that you read the lighting FAQ put together by the members of the Philips automotive lighting forum. It can be found here http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/ and will help you fix your glare problem.
