4DR SI, 1500 mi, low on oil, what to use
Does anyone know what brand of oil Honda uses in their new car oil, I would like to keep the same oil in the car untill 5k or so because supposedly it is the so called "break-in" oil. Does it even matter? Any input is appreciated
Its just the standard 5-20 with a "break in" additive. just go to your dealership and tell em ur low and ask em to top u off... we do it all the time
No, Got the car with 7 miles and checked the oil when the night after I got it. It registered exactly between the 2 dots. It now sits a little above the lower dot after a nights rest. Car was has been babied, driven by my girl. It has 1600 miles or so.
mine burns oil! I check it about every 3 tanks. I changed my oil about 1900 miles ago and just added a 1/2q yesterday I keep it close to the 2nd full dot and use mobil 1 syn
I had to add about a qt to mine around 2000 miles. From what I hear, they tend to burn a little during the break-in period. I'm at 3500 now and it's running stronger than before. Just waiting to hit 5000, then switching over to synthetic.

so is it alright to just add in 5w-30 or do you need the 5w-20 with the break in additive? i'm still waiting to hit 5k miles also.

*5w30
*5w30
5-30 is a little thicker when the car gets hot. this can be a good thing and bad thing. Thicker protects better but fuel economy and performance can be affected in a negative way. Also 5-30 has a wider range therefore the molecules break down faster than something like 10-40 or 5-20.
Just checked my oil too.
It's BELOW the lowest dot and I only have 2300 miles on it. Took it to the dealer and they suggested I get an early oil change since "MOST Si drivers drive their cars hard and this tends to happen"....
Jerk
Is this normal?

K series engines burn oil under NORMAL use. Of course, the more you get on it, the more it will burn. ALWAYS check your oil levels every freaking gas stop.
Also, check to make sure you don't have any leaks if you can - put cardboard under your car to verify if you do/do not have leaks. I checked habitually, added oil when needed, and as it turns out I had a badly installed VTEC switch that was leaking (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1923970). Apparently the dealership had replaced several of them.
Of course, when they first called me the first thing out of the service guy's mouth was "Man, you've been running it hard!". Joke or not, I have a feeling that is the general idea around service bays for our cars.
