Default Its about that time!!!!

The time has come to get rid of that piece of S@!* am driving!!!!! Am going SI shopping tomorrow. Just want to know something about how dealers work. I know someone just posted some topic about insurance and payments, but i want to know how to talk the dealers down to get the best deal possible. Remember am in New York and things here are different. Hopefully some New Yorker will give me some good advice. Also other input is wanted. Thanks in advance.

Well your in luck there are a lot of FG'ers on here from new york.

I work at a dealer, and the 1 thing I can tell you is to be polite they will work with you. Let them know what you are looking for first thing.
Most of them are good at what they do and will want you to test drive and look at it and get you all excited right off the bat. So before any of that get the figures you are looking for.

Seriously, holy crap that's quite a bit.

Check out another freaking insurance agency. Hell, check out Progressive or E-surance (http://www.esurance.com) for some better quotes.

That's a rip off. That's your damn car payment right there. Get another insurance company. I can't make any suggestions cause frankly I don't know which ones are good or not. Also take a look at your coverage amounts and make sure they're not putting you down for the maximum coverage. That might be why it's soo high.

What's your driving record like?

Holy cow, that is really steep. Do you have accidents on your record? Are you like 17 or something? If your over 21, do you have any DUI's?

I live in CA and insurance is pretty expensive out here as well, but $400 a month is the most I have ever heard. It sounds like your agent miss quoted you or something.

I pay like $75 a month for full coverage, but then again, I am very old with no tickets or accidents and a multiple vehicle policy.

Geico for the win.

Im not 100%, but i'm sure there's different coverage amounts for property damage etc.

Ex. $100,000, $50,000, and $20000, etc. The higher the coverage amount the more you pay per month. That's just part of it. There's also comprehensive, collission, liability, rental coverage, etc. All kinds of mumbo jumbo they use.

If you go to progressive.com you can get a quote from their website and adjust the different coverage amounts to see how it affects your payment. Not sure what other insurance companies have online quotes though.

whole heartedly agreed, don't test drive it first. Figure out the price and when the deal is made then go for it.

I got my Si from Honda of Kingston they arn't really the brightest people and they seemed to jerk me around a lot till i got my car. From Middletown there are a couple of options like Kingston and Poughkeepsie. For the insurance i am 21 and have a 93 vr4 with the lowest coverage and my Si with full and i pay 180 a month, so maybe try Allstate?

Don't go with Allstate..... whatever you do.... do NOT go with Allstate.... worst company I've ever worked for. Geico normally has the lowest rates for just about anyone. You could have 3 DUI's on your record and still get insurance through Geico, they suck at checking your driving record.

Oh, and 22 isn't a good age to get insurance on your own if your a guy. Girls are okay, guys= screwed. Hit 26 and your peachy as long as you don't have any claims.

I just dropped allstate after 10 years for what they were gonna charge me to insure the SI...Allstate is NOT the company they used to be. I switched to Geico and pay about $120 a month for their maximum coverage.. I actually have a conviction from 7 years ago that drops off my record in 4 days (yeah!!) and they told me my rate would drop again

Geico FTW

Not bad...I guess you're right. They quoted me $5000/semi-annually for a 2005 M3. Probably the only reason why I didn't end up with one last year. I wonder if things would have been different if I got a quote elsewhere. Damn.
