I remember when I got my MC license back in 96 in VA, it was funny, all you had to do was passthe written test and the performance test ws to ride around the building 2 times without crashing
I bet it aint like that anymore

Just take the safety course and you will be exempt from taking the driving portion of the test if you pass the class, you just go up there and take the written and you're good to go.
I'm from NY as well and I have my bike license. I took an MSF course out in the Bronx, a 2 1/2 day class. The first 1/2 day (6pm to 10pm) was all oral lessons, watching videos and stuff. The 2nd day (8am to 5pm) was hands on (you actually get on the bike right away!). The 3rd day (8am to 5pm), more riding but testing occurs around 3pm. They test you on the stuff they've taught you orally and hands on for the past two days. Out of 25 people only 3 failed it. You should have no problem passing it. If you need a good insurance company for a cheap price... Try Crossbay Honda in Rockaway, NY. For liability coverage in NY, $325 ain't so bad after all.

Yes they are easy to get. If you are worried about it then go to riding school. In fact, you are 18, GO TO RIDING SCHOOL. . . .
come on now. . . . Most of us were 18 once. When I was 18 I hit a phone pole at 130+mph. Broke my pelvus in 3 places. Didnt walk for 3 months, after that used crutches. Go to riding school. Dont be a squid and jump on a bike and get killed racing down the highway like some moron. . . . Maybe I am just old. . .
Man I wish I could have taken the MSF course when I was riding at 18. I wouldnt have this knot on my thigh where my leg went into the brake resivoir as I flew over the handlebars...or the 1ft by 6 inch burn where my leg wrapped around the exhaust header.
Im 19 and I suggest taking the MSF course. I took it when I was 17 and it was great. Teaches you all the basics, it's tons of fun, and assuming you pass the final exam you get your endorsement. Insurance is also cheaper once youve completed the course.
Not ALL young'ens are stupid. Im 19 and have only had one speeding ticket (3 years ago, 40 in a 25). No other at fault tickets\accidents ever. My conservativeness multiplies when im on a bike. Going really fast once isnt worth my life.
