cat converter confusion

Default cat converter confusion

my uncle has a 1998 Acura 2.3 cL 5speed..his cat rusted and fell off, he bought a cat and brought it to a shop and they sed that the cat he bought isnt the right spec?? are there different fitment on OEM parts for this car? i looked into it and everywhere sells only one kind, the shop charged my uncle to tell him that it didnt fit...can anyone help???is there a different spec cause the shop dude also sed it was a "cali" spec...i only heard "cali" spec for 3gen eclipses..thanks guys..

The 4 cylinder CL's all seem to run the same cat. The V6's had 2 different cats based on whether or not they were California emissions models. Where did you buy the cat? I'm guessing an aftermarket source? Find out exactly what the fitment problem is, maybe you can source a universal aftermarket cat that will work for you. You could always go with an oem cat but you're going to spend well over $400.
